Alright, I am putting a D70 in my YJ. I would like to go with a spool again. Yeah yeah, I can already here it. "Just weld it" Well, I dont want to.

Anyone know of someone who could possilbly make one? Like Sandy Cone? I would even pay $350 for a spool as long as its cheaper than a detroit.

i'm also building a 70 for my TJ, can't find one, thought I had one, when the mailman delivered it...it was for a sixty:mad: i'll be watching this thread for some info.

I dont want to spend $500+ for something that I wont be as happy with that is $200 cheaper and wont break, ever

just got off the phone with sandy and as far as he knows there is nobody building a d70 spool. some tech issue with doing it that would make it cost a fortune. however he would make a mini spool that would cost around $200 each if there are 10 guys that will commit to buying them.

the tech issue is that because of the ring gear size the raw materials are not available in a form that is condusive to effeciet manufacturing. i doubt anybody want to pay 600 bucks for a spool.

$600 is too much but if it was cheaper than a full detroit then I would be serioulsy tempted.

I feel your pain. I couldnt find a spool for my D70 either and didnt have the cash for a detroit. I just fired up the welder, so far so good.

we need a few more...anybody?

To late allready welded it. Got tired of waiting. And happy with it. over 400 HP, 44" boggers and I abuse it by doing these things, power braking, rubicon twice and racing at the local 1\4 mile race track Against stock vetts and other various cars. It is holding up fine. Just weld it.

I have in excess of 200 MIND BENDING HORSEPOWER in front of my welded 60, and it is doing just fine. LOL

Seriously, properly done, a 70 welded is darn near bulletproof.

Quit trying to give your money away to buy worthless parts and start building that anorexic skeleton you call a TJ.

yeah i want a spool for mine too. no a mini spool won't cut it i'd just weld that. what material is required for a spool?

A quick web search came up with a guy who CLAIMED to have a Strange spool in his D70. Claimed the D70 was from an airport Tug - not sure if he meant strange as in the company or strange as in weird.
