ive heard early 80s cjs had a short output shaft compared to the later 300s, therefore not being able to upgrade to a bigger aftermarket output shaft. what years should i avoid when looking for a 300? how much longer is tthis longer version?

1980 cj's and i have heard that some of the early 81's had a short shaft d300. the short shaft is supposedly stronger than the longer version. the speedo gear is not cut into the shaft on the 1980 version and it is on the later 300's. you are correct though. the aa hd tail shaft is for the later d300's.

you want an 83 or newer, my 82 has the short one
