: Want more wheelbase??
dangerber 01-23-2002, 03:22 PM I caught the Sammi bug last September, so I'm looking to trade my '86 4runner for a Sammi. Anyone want to take me up on it? :D Details and pics are in the for sale section...
Need more room for the family?
I do have a tech related Q also-I've got a Chev D44 front that I was going to narrow for the runner, and I'm wondering what my narrowing options are if I put it under a Zook. I prolly won't, cause I'd like to stay lightweight, but what would the spring pads have to be at for a Sammi? :D
Rockrat 01-23-2002, 04:14 PM I measure around 26-3/8 between my spring pads on the front
Dont no anything about a d44 from a chevy if you could use it cut it down to the same length as a toy axle and stick it under added
width never hurt no one, so she says!!

I've got a chevy dana 44 under my sami and you can't move the spring pads in due to the offset diff. The spring perch is alread snug up against it. In fact, that spring perch has those differing u-blots to fit over the diff's saddle. You have to fab up some new spring and shackle hangers on the frame. It's only like an inch or two that you have to move them out....
Have fun, hope this helps.

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for. So, I'd have to outboard my hangers because of the cast perch...
Do you work for Macromedia? Just curious, I work for Adobe, so we probably shouldn't be talking!! :D:D
gunracer1 01-24-2002, 09:40 AM i have a 91 zuk f.i. that is all stock with good paint[factory] and no rust. i might be intrested in doing some trading. it has a burnt exhaust valve on #3 but that a easy fix.. shoot me a e mail or private message and we can see if we can get a deal together.

You work for Adobe?!! Oh, well in that case, you DON'T have to move the spring hangers out! You can chop a new spring perch directly out of the diff! Yeah, just go to town on it with a plasma cutter and don't mind those chunks o' ring gear falling out, you didn't need those anyway....:D :rasta:
Thank you, thank you...I'm here all week!
Seriously tho, glad to help! My generousity extends even to Adobe employees!;) What do you do there, anyway?
dangerber 01-24-2002, 10:24 AM gunracer: I shot you a PM. :D
pillard: Sounds good, I have access to a plasma cutter! :D I do QA for Photoshop, GoLive and Illustrator. Just a little worker bee...

Here a link that has a ton o' pics, provided the site will stay up. It's a geocities site and half the time it's down...

Note that I've extended my frame and slid my front axle forward 10.5". I'm also in shackle reversal config, with really long 39") buggy leaves (hence the rail lookin' things you see in the pics). That triangle lookin' thingee is my spring hangers mounted on a pivot, allowing me a bit more twist...
gunracer1 01-24-2002, 12:42 PM ok perry it is finally making sense to me what you were talking about on the phone. i see what you mean, that i needed to see it. it should flex like there is no tommorow but i would think you might need a panhard rod to keep it from flexing over to far when in a off camber down hill situation. it looks like it should track back in place with the channel to align the buggy springs. a pretty cool design and i bet you will get it working killer. but beware of backing up with that long of buggy leaves. the will try to crawl out from under you. man your fab work looks great can't wait to see it. when are you going to pop in the turbo diesel? what are you going to do on the rear? and i know you have to make it to clayton? mike
ppillard 01-24-2002, 01:07 PM I'm gonna have a limiting strap in the dead center of the axle to keep it under me and not limit articulation at the same time.
I'm puttin' long buggy leaves in the back too. I've welded on my new spring perches on the rear, but I still have to chop off the old ones along with old shock mounts. I've slid the rear spring perches in about 6" each (they were really wide to begin with, since they came off a blazer). Now the perches are about 3-4" narrower than stock, which give me a bit more flex (especially with those long buggy leaves). When it's done I'll call it the 7/8 elliptic suspension:D !
Both the front and the back are gettin' cantilever shocks (a dual shock setup with a lever) that should stretch out to about twenty inches.
I'm finishing up the drawings for the diesel adapter plate and I hope to have a 1/2" prototype cut in another week or two. I have about a half dozen 1/8" test cuts lyin' around my office and house. I'll start on the motor mounts as soon as I finish the rear suspension. Then it's on to the dual 4.16-1 t-case project.
dangerber 01-25-2002, 09:35 AM Hey Gunracer1: Are you still interested in working out a trade? Let me know. :D
