: Just got a rangie
grimbo 07-28-2004, 10:44 PM Just got a cheap 78 2 door Rangie yesterday. It came with a ford 9' rear, front ARB winch bar, rear bar with swing away tyre carrier, interanl cage, fully rebuilt g/box and t/case with receipts, near new 31 ATs, all lights work, electrics have been updated from troublesome originals I believe too, long travel bling bilsteins in the rear. It had been setup with springs and 35" tyres but the previous female owner got sick of getting in and out with it that high. All of this for $2000 Australian. Fingers crossed it will be on the road very soon for very little $$$.
What things should I be looking out for in a 78? Any common problems that may appear, although it does seem that mechanically it has been somewhat looked after

Grimace 07-29-2004, 09:41 PM Did Grimace say Volvos????
yes I am saying volvos but my wallet/debt is saying "good one dick head" :p
The idea of almost bolt on volvos is really tempting :smokin:
I might see how much interest I can get on my Front and rear Maxi Axles setup and then go from there :cool2:

Dam Grimace you still in kindergarten?
The best thing about it is it has a FORD 9" REAR !!!
And yes Grimace is still in Kindergarten, or at least his brain is and forever will be.
Grimace 08-02-2004, 06:26 PM Kindergarten
With the 9: rear diff whats the story on CW&P ? ? ? ratios front and rear etc ?

Don't confuse grimbo (the owner of the pictured RR) with grimace... I think it is an old pic so the kid is probably someone else's entirely.
There are heaps of ratios available for the ford 9", search for one of the R&P retailer's sites.
ISUZUROVER 08-03-2004, 01:13 AM 40 different ratio choices between 2.8:1 and 6.5:1

grimbo 08-03-2004, 08:40 PM Ok to clear things up a bit. the kid is not Grimace it is the son of the previous owner. Grimace does behave like a kindergarten kid but is actually much older than one.
As to the rangie any answers or are they all so good i don't have to worry about anything? It definetly needs a thorough clean out of the fuel system. topped it up with petrol on the weekend and it is running very rough now.

Grimbo, search on OL, there has been some stuff on there, but mainly rust in footwells, sills etc, oil leaks? Its a Land Rover...
Dave :D
pendy 08-05-2004, 09:38 AM Excuse my sarcasm.
There is not much left of the 78. You said the fuel system is different and I assume the wiring. Good update. 9" rear good update.
Things I would think of. I have had four of these two doors RRC. door hinges. sill rust. cloth wiring probs. Rusting fuel tank. Fuel pump probs. Speedo probs. Radiator to small. No oil cooler.
What do you suspect problems with?
