I have a 93 wrangler with a rear Dana 35 with 4:56 gears and 36”x14.50” Swampers, and over the past 2 years I have blown 2 Detroit limited slip locker Tru-Trac’s. I am on a pretty tight budget and can’t afford air lockers. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better alternative to the Detroit locker Tru-Trac??

there's your answer...but, if you just have to keep your 35, pony up for the Superior 35 kit with the detroit. About $1000, and really think truss, also.

If your wheeling like that your gonna end up getting rid of the axle sooner or later. Just weld up the spider gears its the cheapest way to go and start saving for a better axle.
I'm soooo onboard with the weld it up and save the $$ for the "real" axle solution.
If you busted that much 35 stuff itm ay be time for an upgrade.:D

Hold on tight, here comes the chant 60 60 60 60 60 60 60!
OK Newbie, do a search for 8.8 Ford rear ends and you will find a ton of info on this board. Replace that 35 with the 8.8 and be happy.
Then delete this post to save yourself!

don't waste your money by upgrading the 35. At least move up to the 8.8 or a 44.

I'll second the opinion - don't waste any money on the 35. I blew up 2 Lock-Rites in mine before I gave up, my daughter blew hers up over New Years a few years ago (with 31" tires!), several club members have broken them with 33" and smaller tires. Bite the bullet and get a 44 or bigger. Any money spent on a 35 might as well be wadded up and thrown in the camp fire.

Thanks Ya'll, I was afraid you guys were going to say that. I've been wanting to swap out the rear axle since the first time it broke a locker, but didn't have the cash or the time. So, I took some of the guys advice and found a few decent priced Dana44's in my area that were taken out of Cherokee's and Comanche's. A Dana60 would be to far out of my budget.
If the MJ or XJ Dana44 is fitted with 4:56 gears, a locker, and pushing 36" tires... How well could I expect it to perform on and offroad?
Or, will I have the same problems, but not as often?
