I want to remove the emmisions EVAP canister from my '97 4.0L TJ. (I'm taking the fenders off and running tube under the hood w/ only a very small inner fender and dont want to have to remount unnessairy crap like this.) Everythings already off and I ran a 10 watt 50 ohm wire wound resistor between the two harness wires that go to the purge valve, but the check engine light has tripped after several times of discoing the battery. BTW: the engine runs absoutly no different with the items removed. I did EXACTLY what was done in this writeup: http://4x4tj.dyndns.org:81/articles.php?id=5
I know for a fact that most of the comp/trail only 4.0L TJs out there arent running the emmisions equiptment anymore, so how did you "trick" the computer to thinking everythings still intact, so the check engine light dosent come on. Any thoughts would be greatly apperciated. Thanks

I took my evap canister off and just put the inlet and outlet lines together. No issues so far.......put about 200 miles on it so far without any dummy lights coming on

OK, so after playing with the resistor idea for a few days now w/ no luck, it looks like I'm going to have to rewire the harness and reinstall at least the purge valve. Kinda sucks. Any other ideas to remove this equiptment without any system probs? Thanks
