: Amigo reliability

I'm looking at picking up a used Amigo. It'll be mostly DD with occasional trail use. I'm in lower Michigan, so rocks won't be a problem, mostly dirt trails with some mud thrown in for fun. Can I expect this thing to hold up?? I'll be looking to find one with the V-6 and auto (wife friendly) tranny, hopefully with a trailer package for light duty towing. I'm talking about flat towing my Sammy for when I want to go out and tear things up without worrying about damage.

My amigo is my daily driver :D you can see pics of it in the "amigo body protection " thread further down the page.
We are talking 80miles a day in DC traffic and i am quite happy with the little fawker. I have had it on rocks and in mud up to the middle of the door sills and it is pretty much stock in the drivetrain other than some walmart all terain tires. The little fawker thinks its a rally car or some shit  I point and stomp the gas and it goes. Its a fun alternative instead of my definatly not DD jeep.

I dont believe amigos came with anything other than a 4 banger in the US but the rodeo V-6 can be swapped with little issues. the 2.6 in mine has sufficent torque for light towing and decent gas milage. correct upkeep will have it happy (timing belt, valves, shit like that)

'89-'94 Amigos came with either the 2.3 I4 or the 2.6 I4.

1998-2003 Amigos came with a 2.2 I4 or a 3.2 V6.

The last couple of years of production the name changed to Rodeo Sport instead of Amigo.

No Amigos were sold in the US for 1995-1997.

i dont have a amigo but my rodeo has the 3.2L v6. ummmm not as effective on the heavy thing but probably great in the amigo. but if you getting 4wd the v6 is standard isnt it?

4wd was offer with both the 2.2 and the 3.2, not sure if this was available for every year though. Isuzu started limiting the combinations such as: 'You can have a 4wd, I4 but not with a soft top' or 'You can have a V6 but not with a manual tranny' . I am not sure which years each of these combo were or were not available but with the limited production of the Amigos don't get your heart set on a particular combination of options, you may not find exactly what you want.
