I am in the middle of fabricating my own shackle reversal. (ie. pita)
I would like to see pics of your settup with some tech mixed in.
Searching here and google has me confused more than anything.
It seems there is a load of different ideas on were/how to locate the
shackle.
Also i would rather not have to extend the frame out much and I don't
want it to have that "fang tooth" look.
Oh... it will be w/ YJ springs f/r
This will be my first auto fab, if I was working with trees I'd just cut the
thing down and make it happen.
Heres a pic of the project. i picked it up while backyard shopping in Utah.
Minus the baja style bumper.
And some s/r pics I found via SEARCHING.

I did the s/r with yj springs , toy axles and toy power steering by myself not really that hard took me about 4 mos working on it a few hours a week . It was my first build where i had to make alot of the parts. I did alot of reading and searching tons of info on here . I did mine like tusker and scawfish extended the frame 8" and used 3.5x3.5 x1/4 square tubing for the front hangers on the rear front I used a jeep cj rear hanger and made my own shackle 4 1/2" eye to eye . The extension was 2x4x3/16 6"long with a 2x4x1/4 bumper . I welded the spring hangers flush with the front edge of the bumper centered at 29" toy axle spring perch width.I welded a 1/4" plate between the frame rails from the frame tube to the front bumper and plated the outer butt welds. I bolted and welded the front rear hangers cut the stock mounts off . There were 2 holes in the frame on each side one of the holes was close to 29"s so I used it and drilled another hole (2 holes in mount) and out a small bead on each side . I spent alot of time rebuilding axles and such if I was to do just a s/r with stock axles it probably wouldn't take as long . Also spent alot of time messing with drivesahfts I had to go with a cv long slip . I tried a non cv first and it vibrated too bad . I can get you pics if you want.

I did my own S/R as well. I am using the YJ springs. I am also running D44's. I had to outboard the springs 1.5" so using the factory hanger was out of the question. For the front I used 2x4 square tubing at 8" long an attached that to the frame, then I installed the front bumper. From there I built my spring hangers. For the rear I cut the factory hanger out and then cut a piece of 1/4" steel plate and welded it to the frame and gusseted it. From there I built my shackle hanger. My reason for doing the 8" extension was to move the front axle forward to accomodate a 36" tire with a S/R.

Update....thanks for your helphttp://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/fingers/fing32.gif
I have been working on it since Sunday morning. Sorry no pics.
Damn digital revolution anyway :mad3:
I just finished cutting out the rear shackles with ¼ steel; Should work well.
Found some shackles from an 88’ Turd Ranger for the front. These will
make mounting easy.
And last but not least the greatest find was some shock mounts from an
early model Jeep Wagoneer. They bolt on, or you can just weld them on.
The fit is perfect for what I need. 5 to 7” higher than stock depending on
how you mount them.
SPINY, I would like to see the pics if you have any. I understand what
you were saying in your post, but the pics would be cool.
Today I purchased the steel for the frame extension. Before I read the
posts from you guys I didn’t understand the need for the extension.
then I went and measured it out. I will only need about 6” I think.
I will be using stock axles for now, (until they break) and will stick with
31’s until they die, then I will get some 33’s. It’s a 50/50 daily driver so
36” tires will proly be overkill.
Jp008, I read the thread on your project. Got a lot of ideas from you, thanks.
It makes it hard though when your trying to get ideas from a project that
is using different axles and such. I remember going cross-eyed trying to
figure out why the hell yours looked different from some of the others.
Axles.
Moto261, That’s a bad ass bumper setup. Can you get a close-up of the
front spring hanger?

Can anyone tell me why this would be a good setup?
Wouldn't the shackle sit waaay to low?

Thanks.
How do you figure out where, and at what angle, to mount the front shackle?
Yours is very close to the frame where the one in the picture above is way lower.

You cut the stock mount off and use a rear cj shackle hanger there were 2 holes already in the frame I used one of them and had to drill another new hole the cj mount has 2 bolt holes in it . i was also using toyota axles the springs are farther apart .

Thanks Spiny!http://techhelpers.net/e4u/drink/trink39.gif
I've been talking to Dave @ AAPA for some tech, he seems cool; very helpful.
This is what i see whan I look at my suspension.....
