Is the stock rear end going to hold up to 38.5x14 SX with 488s, ARB and traction bar. I'm not expecting bullet proof - but don't want to be overly concerned about the pinion breaking or having to drive too conservatively. Alot of the trails out east require some wheel spin -- just a fact of life. If you've got or had a rig set up like this, I really would appreciate hearing from ya.

You can prety much count on the rear axles to hold up to a good amount of abuse, I've seen them break before, but only a few times. I ran 38's on my cruiser rear axle for a few years without breaking any.
The pinion, yes you should be worried about that. Build or have a strong traction bar built and you won't have much to worry about.
If you have a goofy leaf or pivoting type shackle or even a hyper shackle design, you should consider building a locating type traction bar to keep the axle from dropping down and swinging forward, which will cause the leaf springs to bend, the pinion to point up,and the stress will snap the pinion off.
Here's a pic of my set up, it may give you some ideas.

Yeah, it will definately hold up.
Get a traction bar and GET IT AWN :smokin:

That's a great looking traction bar - how does it attach to the frame and allow for the suspension to flex with two attachment points.

Cruiser Fine Spline (27) Pinion = 1.107"
Dana 44 (26 spline pinion) = 1.144"
These measurements were taken using the yokes...not the pinion itself.
Traction bar the rear end and you may be ok for a while. Woody keeps breaking stuff (axle shafts at least...maybe pinions?). Maybe he'll chime in and let us know.
BTW, cruiser coarse spline (10) pinion = 1.098" but keep in mind that the 10 splines are cut MUCH deeper resulting in a much smaller diameter than what I have listed here (All my measurements go from the outside of the splines...not the inside)

I have a broken one of each at the house. I will measure how "Deep" the splines go tonight. But I will agree the coarse splines must be atleast an 1/8 inch deep. and the fine is not even measurable with a regular tape measure.
