: use it or lose it
65SWB45 08-01-2004, 05:04 PM Unlike some cruiser enthusiasts who are lucky enough to live in moist climates like Gig Harbor, those of us in the Southwest have to face something called dry rot on our tires. When your stable gets to be big enough, the problem worsens, as tires that are no where near being worn out 'bite the dust'
I was very dissapointed when I tried to put my old 33s from my Blazer onto my widened cruiser rims this spring. They still had like 3/8" of tread, but started to crack and bulge after only one desert trip.
So I decided that I could not let the same fate befall the 275/85/16s that I pulled off of Ruftoys. Since I was considering other alternatives to the H55 anyway:

Ya know, you ain't gettin no sympathy from me. Given the choice of dry-rotted tires or rust-rotted frames, I'll take your situation any day.
Truck looks saweeet BTW.

Cruiser Nerd 08-01-2004, 06:48 PM Heard about that dry-rot thing.....you know there's original Dunlops kicking around here, don't even need to dismount them....the wheels have rotted away..... :flipoff2:
RustyNailJustin 08-01-2004, 06:50 PM I am with KLF... Dry rot is a blessing compared to rusted frame and tub.
nuclearlemon 08-01-2004, 07:58 PM Armor All.
armor all is the worst thing you can use. it has a high alcohol content that will kill it faster in the long run. go with a quality rubber product.
texican 08-01-2004, 08:18 PM Your only option is to shield the tires from the ozone, and the only way I know of is to either store them in cool dry location or cloke them in heavy canvas.

That's right. Armor all is alcohol based crap. Put it on old vinyl or rubber and it will crack it instead of protect it. Try Turtle wax 2001 SUPER PROTECTANT. I think it's silicone based. Pretty good stuff.
45 Looks good Mark.
UrbanCruizer 08-02-2004, 12:47 AM Another less expensive alternative is furniture polish. Not a super glossy shine, but a nie satin look.
HANGTOWNCRUZR 08-02-2004, 03:32 PM Hey Mark, I have a guy that will give you $500 for that tailgate....or maybe you have another in your inventory....let me know thanks
Rat70FJ 08-02-2004, 05:54 PM He's now salivating, gotta clean up before he shorts out the keyboard! :) :)

MS3820 08-02-2004, 08:11 PM One way to solve the dry rot is to keep that rig in my garage, I'll clean the tires every time I bring it back from mud running :) Hey did you send my harmonic balancer? :grinpimp:
65SWB45 08-02-2004, 10:29 PM Balancer left Friday. Check your PM! :grinpimp:
