: Sway bar ideas..
cmondieyoung 08-03-2004, 01:05 PM Hey guys,
I just spoke recently with a very capable Rover Master Tech, and he suggested removing the front sway bar as opposed to the rear to gain the desired axle articulation. If I remember correctly, many Disco owners remove the rear sway...
Not that I don't believe him, but I was wondering what you all thought about that? (Perhaps removing the front sway bar isn't unusual at all, and I'm just an idiot...)

redrangie 08-03-2004, 01:15 PM did Camo disable the search function again?
10spline 08-03-2004, 02:00 PM when you quote "many disco owners", you are making a major error.
Nobody is you, and nobody has your vehicle. You need to figure out what type of wheeling you and this vehicle are going to attempt, and how often you are going to wheel it.
This master tech probably has a great understanding of the mechanics of the rover suspension, but probably doesn't have a great deal of seat time off road, or trailside. On many Dealership events the techs are clueless when dealing with trailside repairs as it is far outside their paradigm.
If you are going to wheel the hell out of it and don't care about road manners take both of the swaybars off. If you are going to wheel it once or twice a year, but use the rig in your 70 mile each way commute, leave the swaybars on.

cmondieyoung 08-03-2004, 02:29 PM I wasn't asking for a philosophy on the degrees of Land Rover ownership... only if there was a significant difference between removing the front versus the back sway bar. I know that either will "be better for wheeling", but I'm more interested in the aforementioned specifics.
I should have used the Search function, my apologies for that.
sachilles 08-03-2004, 03:00 PM The search function is down.
Sounds to me like you'd be better off with sway bar disconnects. You can make them yourself with a trip to the hardware store.
When the search function comes up(down for maint). do a quick search on the topic. I believe d-90.com also has an FAQ that could answer the question.

No Seth, it does not! :cool2:
Puffdragon 08-03-2004, 04:43 PM Ahh, Fawk it!!! He may be a newbie, but lets give him what he wants. Over all you will get more travel with both sway bars off. IF you remove the front and not the back, you will feel a little more stable in most light situations, but in more hard core stuff the stiff stock setup will be a bit more tippy than you like. Bottom line is that you will need alot of work to be done for hard core offroad. So get out your pocket book
SeaRover 08-03-2004, 09:48 PM there seems to be a body of evidence that suggests when running aftermarket springs, using a modified sway bar on the rear and removing the front sway bar will help our generally stiffer radius arm front suspensions flex more than the other way around. perhaps your tech friend is an elightened one, or perhaps he is full of shit, content to drive his ford escort to the woods for fishing trips on occasion. either way, this thread will still suck ass.
a better post would be pics of your POS rig on a large rock demonstrating the merits of your limited options for truck humping myriad obstacles in the forest. Alas, that might require some effort on your part which, clearly, you are intent on avoiding at all costs. :shaking:

You know what, I'm not even going to say anything. Even this was too much. And this. This too.
pendy 08-04-2004, 12:02 AM Resistance is futile. Go ahead and die already will ya.

I would remove the front Swbar, go to your golfcourse to crossaxle the rig, and report back with pics. C'mon rookie.
cmondieyoung 08-04-2004, 12:19 AM So I'm a rookie because I spend more time wheelin' that hitting the refresh button on my browser? Touche...

Actually, I was thinking about that new football player with his new sneakers tv commercial, when I called you a rook. Reebok Knight or some such nonsense. Champs sport. We like mall crawlers.
cmondieyoung 08-04-2004, 12:34 AM Well if you ban every FNG with a big mouth, where do all the badass vets come from? :cool2:
Let's face it, I drive a mall-crawler. I gotta be able to talk shit with the best of the TJ drivers! You gotta cut the Disco owners some slack... they've got a heavy cross to bear. Hell, my truck's color is "Alpine White". :shaking:
