Well I just found out last night that I am now the proud owner of a Chevy 1-ton dually 4x4. I can't remeber the year but I think it is early 80's. I do know it has a 400 CI engine, I think 700r4, and a 205 t-case. It would have the 14-bolt rear and the 60 front I believe. Just needs a battery to start running.

My first question is, IS this truck to wide to have fun with??

I figure I could cut the bed off and shorten up the wheel base. I don't care about abusing the rig on the trail and the more body damage the better. I want to run either 42's or 38's under it and make it as trail worthy as possible. Am I dreaming to try this with a fullsize rig. I used to have a FJ-55 but I think those are narrower than this truck. Am I dreaming to think I could put a functional 4-link under this rig??? I know you guys like the little trucks but I want to try something different. Suggestions Please.

OR should I just part it out and spend the money building up a mini truck???? Please say no to this :flipoff2:

PS: Anybody want to cruise up to South Dakota to pick the truck up for me??????? :flipoff2:

with the number of chevy's out there I would buy another shorter WB chevy instead of trying to cut and shorten the frame. It is a big truck but would be alot of fun on alot of trails. Just don't plan on fitting on the tighter "jeep" trails

I highly recommend it! ;) You can also make use of the wide dually axles to run Hummer bead locks on it without modifications to the steering components, or so I am told. This would give you close to the same track width as a single wheel truck. It's also not too hard to relocate the rear spring hangers further forward on the frame if you want a shorter wheel base. Pretty easy to go down to 115" or so, then just whack off the over hang at the back spring mounts. I was originally planning to cut and splice the frame on mine but now, the more I look at it the more I like just moving the springs. You can easily pick up some free lift that way too...

If your worried about it being to big just narrow it. Me and my buddy are in the prosess of narrowing his k 5 blazer 20 inches. it really isnt to hard just takes alittle planning and alot of time to weld it back togeather.

I think I am going to do the "chop it up" option. but I am still looking for Ideas. If I hauled a Fullsize out to the CON could I get it AWN???? I don't want to be stuck on the sidelines when everybody else is having all the fun.

it will do just fine if you don't care about body damage. and besides you are in lubbock texas. not the most crowded place in the world. hell i just got used to the sound of bending metal

You can fit 40" tires on that thing without a lift, just a sawzall. Weld the rear and lock rite the front and get it!!

You will have a blast with it!!

Those axles are 66-69" wide v 55-57" wide on an FJ-55 to give you some comparison.
