I'm reading all of these posts on 4-link and hoping to find the answer to this simple 4link Question

I've noticed that some of you With 4-links have the upper links longer and some have the lower links longer, Which is better and why. I seems to me you would want the uppers longer to keep the axle at a good angle.

Thanks

I may be off here but if you have shorter uppers I think that makes the pinion rotate up alightly as the suspension droops. Not a real big deal for a trail rig because mostly they just move one tire around.

I had planed on shorter uppers, close to parallel to the ground with the arms mounted on the centerline of the axle and the uppers mounted to the top of the pumpkin...after reading the other thread I may raise them higher or lower the bottom mounts a little.

...That's backwards, actually. Shorter uppers will make the axle mount move forwards further than the lower (shorter radius), so the pinion will rotate down.

Take a compass and a piece of paper, draw some arcs to scale, and you will see what the different lenghts and mounting points will produce. Then you can play with it to get the action you want.
