: Cherokee custom lift setups?

hey, i've heard about people using f150 coil springs, exactly how much lift can you get out of those? i will probably just end up going with 4.5 ZJ RE springs, which will give me 5.5 inches of lift. (i have a 2 door XJ). My objective is to fit 35s, and i am not afraid of a sawzall. :flipoff2: it doesnt seem like very many people like to do custom setups, i've searched on a couple different boards and havent really found anything.. its pretty strange, but then again i come from yota's, i had a 4runner for a while. but anyway, i read about a guy using chebbie springs? i would really like to piece together a junkyard suspension if i can, i bought this jeep for 800 bucks so i'm tryin to do an economy lift and improvising. if it doesnt work, fine i'll save up and buy the expensive junk. never hurts to try though, eh. if i go with the zj springs, i'll get some 2 inch spacers to get me 7 inches in the front, so i will need some spring set up that nets me that much in the back. any ideas? thanks!

The 4.5 ZJ RE springs are the same at the 5.5 XJ springs

be careful with the 2" spacers as they like to add to the death wobble problem. I think there's a TJ 7" spring that RE sells.. you should cross reference them, and see for sure.

okay, so how do the TJ coils hold up to XJs? what does a.. say 4 inch coil spring for a tj equate to on a XJ? and btw this is going to be a dedicated trail rig, it is very rarely if ever going to see the road. and even if it does see the road, i am quite familiar with death wobble, and it doesnt really bother me that bad. lol.

*edit* it appears that tj springs lift one inch less on a XJ, so a 4 inch tj spring is a 3 inch xj spring.. think thats right.. but anyway, that's all still gonna cost me a fortune. i already have a 3 inch coil lift, i wonder if i could just put a 2 inch spacer in and trim the hell out of the fenders, maybe i could fit the 35s. i want a low cog anyway. like i said before, this is a trail vehicle. i may end up really going all out on the rear end and then tubbing it when i'm done. i heard that you can chop 5 inches out of the front. so i think if i really chop away at the fenders, and with the 5 inch lift in the front and... whatever gets me 5 inches in the back, i may be able to fit 35s? correct me if i'm wrong. oh, also, i will be making my own lower and maybe upper control arms.

What in the hell are you talking about? A 2" spacer will not give you DW, now if the draglink/trac-bar angles are off, and some other things aren't up to par, they you could get it.

You don't need 7" for 35's, 5.5" will clear 35's plenty fine, with some bumpstops and trimming.

I suggest you keep reading and searching, NAXJA has some more indepth threads that can help ya. There are some things you can do to keep the cost down and still have a good rig, from moving the shackle mounts down below the box, to moving the control arm mounts to above the bottom of the axle tubes.

I'm running a 3" lift spring out of my buddies late 70's Ford truck, 2" spacers and the spring mounts on the fornt axel I got about 12" lift....They are stiff enough that theres not enough body roll to worry about on the road, and they flex nice when need be.
