Hey everyone.
I posted this on dweb but thought I'd better post here in case it went down. Although it has been up for about 2 days straight now!
Finally got software and an interface to read fault codes on my 2000 d2.
I've been getting a code since I installed my snorkel that I believe may be caused by air leaking in from after the MAF.
The code p0171 refers to bank a running to lean. This could be caused by un-measured air. The O2 sensors themselves seem to be working fine.
Anyone have experiance with this?
I'll be checking this weekend and just wanted to see if anyone else had any experiance with a similar problem. TIA, Walter
P.S. I've posted this on a couple of sites but keep getting bumped lower by people who want to convert to '03 headlights or how to clean thier pleather.
This may be the last place to get non-lame information.

I think you got a vacuum leak in the intake system. After the MAF, probably manifold.

Start there.

Given the setup on those engines, there are few ways for air to leak into a single bank. I wonder if you don't have another problem, perhaps a bad injector?

If it were leaking into anywhere but a single runner, injector, cylinder head port, it would not be likely to list a single bank. If it truly is a single bank, the leak or malfunction must be limited to a single component associated with a single cylinder.

You might try disconnecting a vacuum line to confirm operation of the MAF (but then again, it is limited to a single bank).

BTW-I hate those engines, we never have these problems with Series engines, and if we do, it's so far easier to correct.

As much as I hate it, I'm off to research theory of operation on the Motronics engines.

(rambling stream of consciousness voice on) I doubt it is related to the install of your snorkel. (rambling stream of consciousness voice off)

Actually I have the fault that also indicates the other bank.
I looked around and checked my hoses and stuff but didn't find anything obvious.
I'm gonna dig into it deeper when I have more time.

I would replace the MAF if you have more than 50k. Especially if you offroad it.

The DII MAFs should be considered consumable.

There is an O ring that could be missing bad but I doubt this is the issue. Its probably the POS MAF.

I cleaned up the MAF with CRC electronics degreaser. Seems to have done the trick.
I've heard of the MAF's being shit which I don't get seeing as it's a Bosch unit.
My BMW had 140k when I sold it with the original Bosch MAF.
