In about a month I am going to be heading to Ontario. I currently live in P.E.I and it is a 20hr (approx) drive to where I will be staying.
My question is what can I do to ensure that my 86 22re auto runner with 340,00kms will make it?

Within the last 6 months I have replaced the:

-Timing chain and guides
-oil pump
-oil pan
-rod and main bearings
-head gasket
-valve job
-valve rubbers
-cam
-front and rear brakes
-exhaust from head to the tailpipe
-rad
-water pump
-heater core
-front wheel bearings
-alternator
-plugs, wires, cap, buton

This weekend I will replace the:
-fuel filter
-rear axle bearings

What else should I check?

I want to ensure that I do not have to work on my rig because I will have no place to do it, and I cannot afford to pay a mechanic. I also don't trust anyone with my rig except me.
I will be staying in Ont for a min of 3 months (that is how long my internship is for) and if things work out I will not be going back to the Island.

Thanks in advance for the tips

Do a search in the IH section, we had a post on "Hard Parts" you might pick up a few good ideas.

I have taken many long trips in my life and I usually do not follow the advice that I like to give. But my advise is to make sure you drive it quite a bit before you leave. It is not impossible for a new oil pump to go bad real quick or a bearing to spin or something along those lines. Get some miles on it and get some confidence in the truck. take it for a couple 3 hour trips.

What I usually do is get everything together about 15 minutes before I am suppose to leave and then it everything works I just take off. I have never really gotten screwed doing this but I am sure I will someday.

Just my .02

oh yeah and bring a FULL set of tools!

I have taken many 3 hr trips lately since my sister goes to University in N.S which is a 3 hr drive each way. I am confident with my truck but I just want to make sure that I will not have any probs. I will not have any of those handy contacts in Ont like I have here, you know the kind of people that will give you a part right when you need it and you can pay them later.
On another note I blew my Passenger side wheel cyl on the way to college this morning. So I am putting in two new ones tomorrow!

My best advice? Put together a list of contacts along the way, fellow wheelers that could help you out if you get stranded, maybe put you up for the night, help you wrench, source parts. Woody (IH8MUD.com) maintains a list of Cruiserheads that volunteer for this service, it's pretty comprehensive and gives you contact info, what kind of assistance you can expect, etc..

Three years ago, moving across the US from MD to AZ, I had a list of wheelers along the way in case something happened. Nothing did, but I still stopped to visit people, do some mild wheeling along the way, meet other wheelers. It made a solo 3 day trip *much* easier.

Just a little off topic, but I used to work of a brewery equiptment co in PEI. I have never seen so many good loooking women in one place than the bars in PEI. Are you sure you want to leave ? :D :D :D

So you worked out of a Brewery Equipment Co. out of Pei. Who was it you worked for?, The only brewery I know of here is "The Gahann House".
I do agree that there are alot of nice lookinjg women here but I am "involved" so she put the blinders on me :(. I would love to stay here but I have my internship with Microsoft in Missasuga. It is too good of an opportunity to pass, even though I will be leaving alot behind i.e, girlfriend, family and my shop.
