I have been wanting to build a kegarator out of an old fridge for awhile, And i really don't know where to start...

Does anybody know what all you need to build one??
I know i have to get a Co2 setup and the tap and what not, But are there any tips or tricks that anybody would like to share?

Thanks in advance

alot of liquor stores carry kits for just such a thing. you need a co2 tank, regulator, hoses and a tap. Heres a pic of mine :grinpimp:

I see the kits on Ebay all the time. My buddy built his out of a cheap fridge with a freezer for the mugs...... :flipoff2: Got all his co2 stuff at Sun Devil Liquors in AZ.

How long does can the keg last in one of theses? Do you need to drink it all up pretty quick?

From what i understand, It will last weeks as long as it is pressurized....

It will last a long ass time.........Just like he said keep pressure on it and you will be fine. It takes a few kegs to get the co2 bottle dry.......Good luck.....ohh yeah and have fun drinkin :flipoff2:

A Keg will last close to a year I think. That is when you use C02 rather than your average party pump.
I use 5 gallon kegs, they are the ones that used to have syrup in them.
I have two in mine so I have room for other stuff but I bet you could fit 4 or 5 if you wanted nothing but beer.
I put the C02 bottle in the fridge but it hides behind the kegs so I do not know it is empty ubtill it is too late, but now I keep a spare. I think I put at least 8 kegs through with one C02.

Nice kegorator pictured I dig the handle

The beer goes bad when it is exposed to atmospehric oxygen. By maintaining a blanket of CO2 on top, you keep the aerobic activity down.

I've built a few kegging systems and the Cornelius kegs with Homebrew are by far the easiest to setup and fit into a fridge.

I got all of my stuff in a kit set up from http://www.beveragefactory.com/ They also sell stuff on ebay under the same name.

As far as the CO2 tank goes, I would next time if I was to build one skip buying it from the beverage factory and just buy it from the welder shop.

The one I got in the kit is really super fancy and I got it filled for the the first time but next time i'll just exchange it. So instead of wasting money on the shiney one just buy a refilled one.

Have fun!

Are the fittings on a Co2 bottle diffrent then say a nitrous bottle??

Shit.. guess them little bar fridges wont suffice now! Got to make room for a fullsize fridge in the shop instead of just hiding a small one under the bench.

I haven't gone out to look at my nitrous tank and CO2 tanks, but IIRC, they are both fitted with inert gas fittings and should be interchangable. As to what the effect Nitrous would have on your beer remains to be seen. I doubt you could ingest enough dissolved in the beer to have a deleterious effect, or euphoric either :flipoff2:

D'Oh, there is a nitrous regulator and CO2 bottle in the basement, let me go take a look... Well, I don't have a tank wrench (wench?) at the house. The Nitrous regulator has a CGA 320 nut on it and a male, small diameter member. I don't remember what the CO2 is/was.

I did find my Corny keg setup though :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I was just wondering if i could get an old nitrous bottle laying around filled with Co2... That way i wouldn't have to buy the bling-bling Co2 bottle...

Less money spent, Means more beer:)

also got mine from beveragefactory.com ... they seemed to have the best prices. from my experience a keg will only last about a month before it starts tasting a little funny. also, might not be a good idea to use the nitrous bottle. not sure what kind of pressures they are meant to withstand but you are talking thousands of psi when your bottle gets filled.

I think most CO2 bottles get filled to 2200psi, not sure on NOS.

The portable set up I have used is fairly simple, take your Powertank and your tap and fab up a radiator/condensor/heater core to run the beer through. Just put the radiator on ice inside a cooler and it works pretty well. The problem with this is you probably don't want to drill holes for the lines in your RV fridge. Any cheapo cooler works great. Kegs don't like bumpy roads very much though, still working on a full suspension keg carrier.

Try 600 depending on the tempature, In my 33 deg fridge it is 500 psi
