: D60: Standard vs High Pinion

Who's running a Chevy/dodge/?? Standard D60 front, versus Ford high-pinion?
My CJ7's extended about 8 inches in the front with a shackle reversal and offset-centerpin springs, moving the front axle forward probably a good 5" or more.
I'd really love to do a high-pinion axle, but having to retube it for right-side diff, and the initial cost of the axle being a bunch higher is prohibiting...

So basically, is it worth it to wait (possibly a year) or should I pick up a cheaper chev housing? I doubt I'll be breaking gearsets, but is the higher pinion worth the expense, and the greater amount of work?

Who's running what?

Well especially with the extra wheelbase I wouldn't worry about the RC just get a standard...I am going to be running a RC in my Heep but only cause it is a wrangler and I needed a driver side drop...the best place for a RC in a Heep is in the rear IMO(flame suit on) since DL angle are usually so steep anyways:D

That's what I've been hearing, esp. since I have like a 22" front driveline or some ridiculous length, the angle hopefully won't be THAT bad...

Anybody else?

Roll the pinion up. Weld on a 6* shim and that alone will get it close to a RC60. Or use a a port-a-band and cut out a piece, turn it around and weld it back on.

High pinion keeps the front driveshaft further away from the rocks.

I never would have guessed that... :flipoff2:

The high pinion is stronger but odds are you will never need the added strength.

Like 66CJDean said just tip a LP D60 and go for it.
