With my cats out of the picture now, my next step is to attempt to eliminate the EGR system. I know it can be done, but it seems other components of the smog control system are tied in with it, so it's gonna be tricky. Anyone tried it before on their 62 that I can glean some info from? I'm volunteering my rig as the guinea pig for desmogging experiments, so let's see if we can make it work, eh?

You can simply plug the vacuum line going to the EGR actuator or "modulator" so that it never opens. You can also remove or disable the air pump and save another 0.5 hp. I doubt that you will notice any performance or mileage imporvement, but it is easy to restore if you get posted to a smog state, like Travis AFB.

I had thought of that, but this is one of those "everything affects everything else" things, so I don't think I can easily get away with just plugging the vacuum line. My air pump has been eliminated for a long time, and there was no real performance improvement there, but a very slight mileage increase. I probably should get a dummy pulley to put on and completely take the air pump out, actually.
