Well, I measured the scout 44 rear I have sitting in my yard, hoping to use it for my yj, and it came out to 55" from outside of drum to outside of drum.. does this sound right? If thats really what it measures, no biggie, I have to get adapters anyway, I'll just make them 2" wide so that the total width comes out to 59" but I just wanted to know if this was right... I thought scout 44's were 58" wide..

That scout axle will never fit in your h**p, no way, never. Give it back to the rightfull owner! Scouts never die, they just get cut up and picked apart by the vultures:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Ok.. well... Now Im hearing that if there is a nut on the end of the axle, they are two peice.. Im not real close to the axle, and don't feel like driving to go look.. but if it does have the nut on the end that the drum is on, does that mean the axles are two piece :( ??

yes.

Early Scouts ('61 - '70) had a narrower, 2-piece axle shaft D44, simular to jeeps. The nut in the center of the drum is a dead give away. They also have the (weaker??) coarse spline shafts (19 spline). however, many of them also have powerlocs and 4-something gears (4.27's were popular).

Your call on whether or not you want to still use it. I'm sure you could have 1-piece shafts made if you really wanted to later, if you start breaking stuff, and you could always upgrade it to 30 spline at the same time....

And before you ask, no, the later Scout II D44 shafts will not fit (with out cutting down), later D44's are ~58" with the corasponding longer shafts.

Chief:
:flipoff2: I know I know.. I wish I didnt have the D35, but it is the only rear axle the yj came with from the factory, and when I bought my yj it was all stock.. hence the reason I bought a 44.. oh well.. I'll be checking it out tommorow.. to make sure its a 19 spline two piecer.. like I think it is. :(

Might be smoking, could be a swap, or T-all rear. The T-all rear I picked up is 63.5
