So, I need to start pursuing engine/trans/trans case/axle options for my junk much more ambitiously. I have a limited budget, but want maximum power and strength. I would prefer an auto, but a manual would be acceptable. The wheelbase on my truck is 88", FWIW.
TIA :flipoff2:
The cheapest way is to build it once and build it strong. DON'T skimp. If you have to wait another three months and save up. Then do it. You will pay less money overall this way...

Find a 1 ton Chevy with a rough body, swap in the drivetrain.

good plan. lets see here, if i could find a K30 round here with a sheatty frame and body, i could pull the 454, TH400, 205, front 60 and 14 bolt, only problem is half of that stuff just wont fit. and i want a lower low than 1.96:1. any other options? whats a doubler selling for nowadays?:flipoff2:

You wont have much driveline in the rear if you go Auto. I have 327, t400 and dana18 in an fj40 with 91" wheelbase and the rear driveline is only 18" long and the angle really sucks.

yeah but the TH400 is one BEAST of a tranny. i dont need that kind of beef with only a mild 350 for a motor. i would be perfectly happy with a slightly prepped TH350 and call it a day.

Yep it's a beast but the TH350 ain't much shorter and if you go with a 205 you'll be just as long as a 400 with a dana 300 behind it. Hey there ya go. Find a 350/350/300 and you'll be set.

HOw abuot an AMC 350, TH400 combo? I also have some sort of a t-case behind it. Either a D20 or a quadratrac, but I think it is a 20. I will sell the whole setup for 400. The tranny has never been run, and has a $700 receipt for a rebuild. Let me know by e-,mail dima@fhicda.com
