I'd like to buy a conversion chuck for my 3/8" drill so I can chuck 1/2" drill bits in it. Does anyone know where I can find such a thing?

I know I should just buy a 1/2" drill, but what can I say, I'm cheap.

nothing to add other than to subscribe to this thread, cuz Im wondering the same thing. 1/2" chuck drills are ungoddly more expensive than a comparable 3/8ths"...

Well, I guess I should have searched before posting. I found this reference chart (http://www.michiganpneumatic.com/mipnto/extrahtm/jacobsref.htm) for Jacobs Chucks. There appear to be several with a 1/2" capacity that mount to a 3/8" threaded mount. I also found this chuck at harbor freight. (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=5733) So, hopefully this will help someone.

Try ENCO - they have chucks to fit ANYTHING - even those little import drill presses... Prices are according to quality - you get what you pay for.

Black and Decker may not be the best option but, my 1/2 in drill is perfect for me. I was browsing at the B&d outlet one day and ended up buying a 5.5 amp gear reduction type drill for 10 dollars. It came with a 2 year warrenty, and side handle, i.e. perfect for an average d.i.y.er.

Cut your drills down to fit a 3/8" chuck.

Works for me :flipoff2:

Home Depot sells a variety of 1/2 chucks for 3/8" drills... That's where I got mine.

Find yourself an old-ass 1/2" drill (ie the metal ones), single speed/no reverse is good enough. Then wait till you come across a good deal on a nicer 1/2" one. Or, buy the 1/2 chuck for your 3/8 drill, then you get to buy 2 new drills once you burn up your 3/8 drill trying to do big stuff with it. :D
