: Rotors: OEM or Aftermarket?

Given the almost 2X cost difference, what about aftermarket rotors? I've got the front end torn apart and the rotors are at the minimum thickness. I don't want to be pennywise and pound foolish.
Thanks,
Ed

6 hole or 8 hole rotors?
I can only afford aftermarket with as many disk conversions as I've done..
Might have to get the cheap ones turned prior to using but still way cheaper.

Brembos are what I use if aftermarket, look for someplace that carries Auto Specialties brand of brake stuff, in the box are Brembo's for $30-40 each.

I found them, John. They list for $40 and the guy will sell them to me for about $30 @. Unless they warp bad, I can't see a big difference.
Thanks,
Ed

What ever you do, don't get the one from CCOT.. They're made in china crap.
I friend of bought a set and when they were turned, it had all kinds of casting flaws..

Disclaimer: not affliated with any vendor.

Thanks Charles, I think the Brembos are made in the USA. I can't believe you can only turn rotors 1mm. New are 20mm and minimum is 19mm!

Brembos are usually italian, but they are good quality. We sell a few hundred sets a week of brembos for bmw's and hardly ever get any back. The white box china crapco rotors I put on my 89 pickup are so warped after 10k miles it's unbelieveable.

What Steve said and how about a source also. I am certainly familiar with Brembo but have never heard of or seen "powerstop" or "autospecialty" in any of my local parts houses.

OK, I did a little search and it looks like powerstop rotors are crossdrilled rotors for high performance apps. I know I don't want crossdrilled rotors on my wheeling truck. I take it they make non crossdrilled or slotted applications?

I get all my brake junk at Southside Brake and Clutch in Tacoma WA, my Toyota parts guy's cousin runs the place.......so I get a nice discount ;)

I have the Auto Specailties aplication book at home.

Brembo's vented not drilled or sloted, just normal like OEM. last set was for my 82 fj60, think I used them on the mini swap in the 45 was well.

so if ya want, tell me what they are for and I'll give ya a part #

how about '85 FJ60 vented, and same slotted? phone # or website for Auto Specialties (to find distributors/dealers) would be cool, too :grinpimp:

thanks, Pimp!

8/80 fj40/60/62 front rotors JBR-336. vented is the only way they come

9/75-7/80 fj40/55 JBR-335

the ones I got were Brembo, but no promises what might be in the box now, this was 1 year ago.

autospecialty.com

I have used there re-man calipers, no issues.

shop I get my stuff at (800) 962-0483, ask for Carter, tell him Holmaas sent ya, he will pass on my discount and will ship, he goes home about 1pm PST, they have place in Seattle as well.

I have seen the same brand turn up on one of those on-line part searchs before.
