Somebody knows if discs, calipers, knukles, hubs, birfields, etc off a '01 Toy pick up fits on '92 live axle housing?

that'd be cool if toyota still made a live front axle in 92...:flipoff2:
seriously tho.. you can swap the rotors calipers etc onto the rear if thats what you are trying to say.. also wouldnt the toyota board be a better place ot post this?:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Calm down :flipoff2: :) He's in Chile. Toyota did make solid axle fronts in 92 just not for the North American market.

A few months ago when they were showing Taliban f'nuts driving around in current model Toy PUs on the TV - noticed that they were solid axle machines.

Toy board would be a better place to ask...

Ask in the Toy section. There are a couple guys over there who are from Australia, where they also got solid axles in the front of their 92 toyotas. I could tell you if I could SEE it, but I've never seen a factory axle under a Toyota newer than 1985.

I decided to come back and expand upon my earlier answer:

Assuming the 2001 is an IFS vehicle, and the 92 has a solid axle, then this should be correct. However, we got no solid axles after 1985, so I don't know what changes ocurred to them since that model year. please keep that in mind with the following:

DISCS
Nope. IFS rotors won't fit onto a solid axle hub. Plus they're vented, while the soild axles have soild rotors (at least the 79-85 front axles do, after 1985 it was all-IFS for us).

CALIPERS
Yes. The calipers will fit, but are too wide for the solid axle rotors, since they are designed for use with vented discs. We have to swap in vented rotors off of an FJ-40 Landcruiser when we use the calipers off of our 86-95 vehicles, to get vented front discs on a solid axle.

KNUCKLES
No way this could possibly work. IFS and solid axle were completely different designs.

HUBS
Same thing.

BIRFIELDS
IFS uses halfshafts, not birfields. Again, definite no.

Also, IFS Toyotas are 28-spline, instead of the solid axle's 30-spline, so the locking hubs won't even interchange.

you are right except for the hub portion i think there is a company called front range off road that has akit to use the ifs hubs and create a solid housing 3" wider than stock

Thanks yota-san, your explanation seems to match with several rough comments I received about this issue.

Fou your guidance, latest solid axle pickups here are 1993, powered by 22RE.

Yeah. I know. You need to mix and match and use the seals from a landcrusier and you can do it yourself, I think. But he didn't ask if I knew how to make his vehicle wider (which is the primary purpose of the kit... nothing is stronger, but the axle gets 2-3" wider) so I didn't mention it.

Front Range makes great stuff. It's amazing how many IFS components can fit onto a solid axle if you have a machine shop.

That's right. I don't know of anybody that frequents the Chilean off road BBS's for tech wisdom. I too have traveled the world and agree with Fatkid. :usa: Have a :smokin: you will feel better.
