Mm175?

Seems opinions on the Miller 175 are pretty good. I am this close >< to buying one for $640 shipped.

Can anyone think of a reason I shouldn't buy it? :)

As been stated many times, see if you can get your local dealer to match the price. I have done that, even with a big place like airgas. The relationship is worth it, even if it is 50.00 more imho.

The MM175 is a pretty good machine, keep in mind though, you will realisticly only be able to weld 3/16 with deep penetration. It says 1/4, but It won't weld strong enough to hold it toghther under major pressure.

There's a vendor on EBay, Quimby Welding IIRC that sells 'em for that price. Paid just under $700 shipped for mine w/ a cart a couple weeks ago.

I have a Hobart 175 which is very similar. With a properly prepared joint, you can do 1/4" single pass. You wouldn't get 100% penetration with a butt joint, but a proper joint (small gap, slight bevel, T Joint) you can. I've welded a lot of 1/4" and never had a weld fail.

I called them & verified that these are new units, not refurbished or such.
Just for kicks I will go to my local weld shop & see if they will match the price :)
