I ran a 16" permacool fan as a pusher in my 71 for a long time. Worked well, only had to trim a couple inches out of the bottom of the grill/cowl to fit it. And was about 2300 cfm.

BTW yes I read the whole thing. Figured I'd share my experience since its the same grill. BTW you cant tell the cowls cut.

Isn't there some sort of kit that you need to get when you replace a mech. fan with the elec? Something that goes on the pulley?
Reason I ask is because I got an elec fan to put in my truck, but heard something about this kit and was too lazy and too cheap to get one. I had since forgotten about it, until now.

Mercedes. they have around a 14" fan I believe. They're normally setup to pull. You can probably reverse the blades though.

Try some junkyards. Last few I've been to had piles of elec fans. I found one that looked about 14" (didn't measure) that was from a 2001 'Zuki Grand Vitara. It's a pusher. My friend nabbed it and put it behind his '86 Toy's rad. He just switched the wires around from pos to neg and got it to pull.

So any body know about this....

Huh??? if it goes on the pulley.. and is spun by the engine.. it wouldnt be electric. are you talking about flex fans?

the kit is called bolts, you just bolt the pulley to the Water pump after you remove your egine fan

Yes sort of. Its reccomended that you put a spacer on your water pump pulley when you pull the mechanical. Basically a washer that all the bolts will go through so it wouldnt be hard to make. The reason is to relieve stress on the pulley.

you shouldnt need to do anything but un-bolt the fan clutch or spacer (the part that attaches fan to waterpump) and then simply bolt the pulley to the water pump like it was before. You could put some flat washers on the outside of the pulley by the bolt head for strength. But dont put anything between the water pump and pulley unless your belt is out of alignment.:usa:

nova, do you work for jegs or something?:flipoff2: summit and jegs is a good place to get stuff on the cheap. i would recomend a new one instead of a boneyard one due to the fact that if your fan goes out your up shit creek without a paddle. also spal make some high cfm units for street rods. check out a street rodder mag.

No I dont work for them, but I have spent way too much money in their catalog's. But Like you said the fan will be new and chances of it failing on the trail are slimmer!! I was wondering why jeepmann 66 took his mech. fan off anyhow? horsepower gain or clearance problem? I say this because I hope he dont expect it to do more than it can.

i run a pusher, cause i ran the engine right up next to the radiator to get more length in my rear driveline. it works fine for me, maybe not in JV in the summer but if its that hot, i dont want to be out there either.:D
