I wouldent say that I wheel a fullsize, but I plan to when mine is done. I have a 79 Wagoneer 360,th400,qt,dana44s that I originally bought with the intention of swapping the drivetrain to my rustbuckets cj7, but then once I determined that my cj was more troube, money and time then it could ever be worth I decided to just get rid of it and build my waggy. No pics yet ( they wouldent be very exciting anyway)

waggy is about as fullsize as jeep gets, dude. ;) (barring an m715 or J20)

granted, the axles are skinny, but that just means you can fit down narrower trails :)

i would say i wheel a fullsize, but the damn thing catches on fire too much :(

I wheel a full-size, 'cause that's what I got!:flipoff2:

Seriously, I've been driving 60 series Land Cruiser wagons for 15+ years, they're a great vehicle for expeditions and make a decent compromise as wheelers/daily drivers. They're too big for most extreme trails, unless you put your plasma cutter/sawzall to good use, but in my case, I use it mostly for expeditions and long trips into the middle of nowhere. Here are a couple of shots!

I wheel a fullsize, long wheelbase, but soon to be a short wheelbase. I think it's a great rig to wheel. Only problem with the fullsizes is, you can't see over the damn hoods. Just look at Emmettology 101's first picture. :D

YA I wheel a full size, why? I tired of a lack of space in the TLC, It was damn near as heavy as the bronco is. I have alwasy found a way to make the bronco fit on the trails we run. Yes it's a different line than the jeeps in the club, and yes I have some body damage.. But I AWAYS MAKE IT one way or another. I have never left my bronco in the field do to brakage, I can carry a full stock of spares, fuel, food, water, tools.

Ya want pics? Take a look.

yep, I wheel one, and honestly, its just by chance. I had planned on bying a jeep and ended up with this thing. Not that I'm upset, I love it. Lots of room. The downsides are the obvious. It's big...It's Big...Did I mention, It's big.

Only on occasion. My reg'lar trail rig (Scout II) is a bit drafty these days, and when the winter temps get to -20, you don't want to be in an open topped rig out playing. :D

So I've been known to take my FS IH Travelall (4dr, 119" WB) out. Especially on our annual Christmas Tree run.

I can carry 5 people, a few pots of chili for the chili-feed, saws n' shovels to keep everyone busy, and as many Christmas Trees on the roof-rack as necessary.

And the heat works great. :D

'cuz its what I got! Besides, my 340lb, 6'4" frame does not fit well in anything much smaller, especially if it is bouncing me around offroad. Also my daily driver, home depot hauler, family ride.

Full-size Blazer. Tired of setting up a wet tent in the rain for those long weekend trips. Want to be able to climb in the back and be comfortable.

Cause I can bring more than one person with me and still carry gear. Helpfull when you bring the wife and 2 kids. I don't have anything against anything else just most other stuff is either too small or parts to modify are too expensive.

I don't consider mine a full-size, but if ya'll consider 60 series cruisers full size then I guess my 118" scout traveler must qualify.

Not fair! If your 118" WB SII counts, so does my full-width axled 100" SII. :flipoff2:

And if my SII is full-size, what's that make my Travelall? Over-size?

Would it be a full-size or a down-size if I put a Sammy in the back first?

Like I said Tom, I don't consider mine fullsize, but jeepers and toyboys do:flipoff2:

I like the room in my truck, I can load the same amount of gear into my truck as someone with a Jeep and still have the whole box available. Not just that but actual room around me in the cab, I'm a big guy and I've tried wheelin a Zuk and a Jeep and I just feel to confined. It does have its disadvantages though, most of the trails in my area are made for smaller vehicles so I tend to take a few hits when wheelin', but thats the price you pay to be comfortable.

I wheel both big and small, My bronco is a go-cart by comparison to my F-250. I like the F-250 for it's ablility to carry Everything!!!
And people don't cut me off on the Freeway when I'm driving #5500 pounds of Iron.

Holy fawk!

I'm amazed at the answers...almost without exception it's about room and space.

Very interesting - I would have thought for sure the major attraction would have been the HUGELY more simple task of running any damn size drivetrain you want...no worries about length, narrowing axles, and all that waste of time and money stuff we Jeepers have to deal with. Just pic any flavour / combo of 1 ton plus running gear you want and bolt it in...simple.

That, and the stock stuff.....76 HighBoy...sweeeet!

Very interesting.

I have fullsize envy

(did I just say that :flipoff2: )

Well, just to make you feel better, that is exactly why I went with a K30 rather than a Jeep or other smaller rig (this includes Blazers which were my previous favorite). I figured I would start with the drive train I want in place. I got the whole K30 (minus 6.2) for less than the cost of the axles. Next install a 350 GM TBI and shorten the wheel base to roughly the same as a Blazer (110-115). Then build/modify a body (probably tube but haven't gotten there yet) to fit my family (4 seats min). And then I'll start cutting down size if I feel the need. I could easily put a body together with no more width than a TJ running full size axles, although I'm thinking maybe seating for 6 would be nice. If the axle width becomes a major problem for me (very much doubt it) I can still narrow them just like the Jeep/Toy guys do to mount full size. If I do, I'll wind up about the same place as the TJ to EB crowd. I just don't have to worry about the expense and headaches of tracking down, paying for, and mounting a heavy (1/2 to 1 ton) drive train and gear or strengthening the frame. Low gears and hardware to run 40"+ tires right out of the box. Most of you guys build tube bodies and exo-cages anyway so, I figure I start out way ahead in time and money.

Storage was a secondary consideration for me, although it was still there.

I run a K5. Basically it's what my folks had available to let me drive when I turned 16 and I just didn't ever get rid of it. Seems like it wheeled well, carried all my gear and did have space to sleep in it. Comfortably.
Then it was great because beefy stuff bolted in. Engines, trannies, t-cases, axles were all easy to swap. And I came up with some good stuff to make them more effective too.
Now, I'd like to build and run a buggy just for the roll over ability, but you really don't have that with a lot of compacts, it's a hard core thing more than a compact thing.
I don't like the size most of the time, unless I need to carry camping gear, then it's great. It's all a compromise, I've been on trips with a friend in a FJ40 and it wasn't terribly comfortable. We had room for backpacks, a tiny cooler and his dog. In the K5 we travel in comparative luxury. I've also looked at holes I just couldn't fit through that the FJ did no sweat.
It's hard to find a better platform to upgrade with HD parts for cheap than a full size GM.

I wheel a fullsize also.Mine is a 73 Blazer.Like it cause I can stick the 2 boys in the back and the wife up front and still pack the rear for camping. And the canoe fits the cage perfect.I am buillding a Cj-5 though. This will be for the really tight and rocky trails I tend to bang the Blazers body on now.the Blazer will be kept for easier runs and over nighters. And probally even towing the Heep.I love the fullze Chevys,My wife has a 79 sub lifted. And am going to look at another one sunday. My wife don't even like to ride in anything smaller!Blazin:rasta:
