If I'm going to swap in TBI 4.3 into my truck can you get rid of the EGR on these systems and have 'em run right. This way I could run a edelbrock dual plane 4 bbl intake, drop the EGR, and use an adapter to mount the throttle body to the intake. Is this possible?
Thanks

It will probably require a chip change/reprogram or you'll get codes and maybe drivability issues. All that is required is to disable egr in the chip.

what i did on my 93 4.3L is i made a block off plate that gets sandwiched between the EGR and the manifold. having it totally blocked off throws codes, so you can drill tiny holes in the plate so some gasses go through. gives you a couple horses ive noticed. im not sure exactly what your looking for though... but mine ran great with the EGR totally blocked off.

easiest way to do it would be to not run a vacuum line to the egr solenoid. The EGR valve will always stay closed since the solenoid will never give it the vacuum to open but will still be recieving a signal from the ecm.
You only get a code when the solenoid is unplugged. If you totally remove the wiring and solenoid and want to keep the check engine light you need to turn off the error flag for the egr.
If you have an eprom programmer and you want to know how thats done heres a bunch of techno jargon.....
the flag for EGR is at 0x050E in the eprom. set bit 5 to 0 then recalc the checksum, blah blah blah.
I started a half assed program because I didnt want to pay for tunercat. It works for what I need. lets you turn off flags, recalc the checksum, and view the raw data.

I don't have the binary up there but it compiles in MS Visual C++. Don't have MSVC on this comp but when I get a chance I'll put the .exe up there
run it as 747edit binfile.bin

PING! KNOCK! I think is what your going to get along with a bunch of problems.
With an EGR valve the air is not as clean and burns at a lower temperature saving high emissions of nitrate (sp, don't remember the emission) but also allows a much higher advance timing. So you will need a new chip for the ECM or programmable ECM.
Until you can burn chips to change settings and turn off codes (EGR) it'll run better leaving it alone.
Then think Muti Point Fuel Injection (http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.com/custom-built-high-performance-fuel-injection.htm).
Or do some performance mods to the TBI and manifold you have with a new chip, record some data and fine tune it. There's a site called Thirdgen.org (http://www.thirdgen.org) that's really into that.
