With the new house that I had built, I have a large area on the side of the house that is roughly 21' wide at the small end and 35' wide at the large end and 38' deep and entrances by a locked 10' gate. I had that area planned out to be an area to store an 18' trailer, my rig and a couple of quads. There is though, a sizeable area still left over and I would like to put a small open aired work area with a roof to help maybe move some stuff out of the garage. I am hesistant though, to leave tools outside so I would like opinions on what tools people leave out, if any.

With that in mind, I would opinions on what to build as well as possible pictures of what people have done and what tools to put out there. The constraints are as such: It has to conform to a reasonable HOA's rules which means nothing is supposed to be higher than the 8' wall (although I might be able to ask permission and get written approval to go a little higher), stick structure, and it has to look appealling for the wife (a happy life is a happy wife).

(a happy life is a happy wife).

Shouldn't it be the other way around? :D

I might leave a compressor outside, but that's about it.

I would be hesitant to put any tools outside.

If I HAD to I would get a Job Box or work site lock box. Other than that everything would be locked up inside. Yeah, I have trust issues...hehe

I wouldn't even think about putting hand tools out there. While routing 110V/220V electrical isn't a problem as the box is close by, the only thing I can think to put out there permantly is a tube bender along with a work bench. The compressor isn't a bad idea, I would just have to plumb a line through the wall since the garage is on the same side. I guess I could roll my welder out there along with assortment of other things, but there is no way in hell I going to leave it out there. I just don't want to waste the space.

Bolt a shop press down, it ain't going anywhere. Put it where it's covered & protected from the elements but away from the building, no more need to worry about long pieces of work hitting walls. Would work well IMO

I'll try and get some pics up for you. Im in the same situation temporarily, while I add on to my exsiting shop. I keep everything in my smaller shop(20X12), like roll-a-ways, welders, tools, hardware, ect, and lock it up. The only thing I keep outside is larger hard to move without a forklift stuff. I put not so important things in a large Knackk box locked up outside. HMO's suck, but if allowed get a small shop/shed built to keep stuff out of the weather and locked up, and see if you can put up one of those canopy car ports since there "temporary" for doing stuff outside. Maybe build a big workbench with locking cabinets under it for some tools and equipment?

I would buy on eof them cheap tin sheds from sears or Home Depot set it up to keep my tools in. Are you pouring concrete for a floor? I f so just set it in the corner it would be cheaper than a Knack box and It would atleast keep your stuff out of sight.
