: Air compressor finally died on me...

Got a slightly used Craftsman 2hp compressor at a yard sale back around 1994.
2 Days ago, the connecting rod let loose and the thing FINALLY died.

Being a cheap bastard, I am torn between trying to find parts to repair this workhorse and get it back running, or actually busking up and buying a new compressor.

Does anyone have any experience with replacement parts for Craftsman compressors?

BTW - it looks like the compressor has been blowing the oil by, and got low - I guess causing the faulure.

Northen Tools shows alot of inexpensive air pumps in their catalog that i've thought of to replace one of mine with. I looked at their website but it doesn't show much of anything.

I have had a couple good experiences with getting parts.

if it's powerful enough for your needs then just repair it.

Paint it yellow and black and sell it on eBay.

Being that old, you might be out of luck getting parts from Sears, but it's worth giving them a call, just have the model/serial # handy.

When I bought my Porter-Cable, the place that I got it from also does a lot of compressor repairs. They told me they don't bother with any Craftsman compressors anymore, they're pretty much disposable. But they were mostly talking about the newer "oil-free" models.

Go to sears.com and pick the parts icon. You can then type in either part numbers or the model number of the compressor. The model number should be on the air compressor somewhere. I have a 30 year old 220 Volt, 20 gallon 150 PSI Craftsman and they still have parts for it. Just checked on the crankshaft (138$), one connecting rod ($40) and the whole pump $277
Guess I should go check the oil in it. :D

My Dad Just rebuilt his. Sears will probably have the parts, But I don't know if its worth it as you might need machine work done on it. with it being just a 2hp model you'll probablly be money/time ahead to just upgrade, unless you have a use for a compressor that small.

I've got more air pressure in my lungs than 2hp. Scrap it I am sure you got your mony out of it.

Why not just buy a new compresor, take your existing one apart get rid of the motor and such and just use it as a second tank? This way you can run bigger and better tools longer too. :)

Well, dad surprised me while I was on vacation with the family and he found a 4.5hp 20 gallon CH compressor at a yard sale that runs great and was $140  so he grabbed it for me.

Better, faster... fixing the old one is now on the back burner :cool2:L
