: why is the stock YJ shock position angled forward?

with the shackle behind the rear axle, it seems like the stock position of the rear shocks would be somewhat ineffective. shouldnt they be angled back to get the maximum dampening affect? i see it kind of in the same way as how people angle their rear shocks toward the midline of the jeep(in the rear, and mostly on SOA's) to be able to use a longer shock. this provides more travel, but furthers the shock away from the natural angle which uses the shock most effectively. so it seems like the stock placement of the rear shock is totally wrong. anyone else thought about this before?

They did years of research and decided that it would be the perfect place for them. That way when the owner got the Jeep home and broke the stock axles and swapped in the full width Chevy axles and did the Spring over and shackle reversal and moved the axle forward about 3 inches, then it would be absolutly perfect. :p

yea right... what he said. :D

Why ask why?

Probably some engineer who can't read a tape measure.

If it bothers you just stretch your wheelbase some. :flipoff2:

They probably did it in hopes of better ride quality who knows...
