I am trying to finish the new buggy, and had an idea on exhaust. I was looking at my ducati m/c,I have slip on carbon fiber cans(mufflers). They weight like 2-3 lbs, they do not get hot, but they are big$.I thoght I could find one of the cans at a m/c junkyard, no luck so far. I have yet to come up with a better idea.Anyone else? I need the low heat(exhaust and 3 gal fuelcell sidebyside). Light weight is also important, so no fiberglass wrappped flowmaster. TIA

if you put a Turbo on it..you wouldn't need much for Exhaust.....and you would have "More Power"...lol

I have way to much power with my 1.3 for a Turbo. My hybrid axles would not make it off the trailer...
Really does anyone have an idea. At this point I am willing to pay a finders fee! I need carbon fiber. Maybe I should change the team name to TYPE/R/RACING & NEON. YA SMART ASS!

I wasn't being a smart ass this time.....some guys here are using a Turbo to cut down on having to run a full exhaust system....to the rear of thier rig.....

the weight of the Turbo is off-set by the gain in power....you only need to have it set for a few lbs of boost....

I picked up a used silencer off a dirt bike for a project I was working on from a Motorcycle shop for $50 once. You might check with them, they often put on performance exhaust systems for customers (dirt and street bikes) and then resale the originals. It probably won't be carbon fiber, but you can get some exhaust wrap from a race shop to provide an extra level of insulation. Otherwise, place a heat shield in-between.

I added a small glasspack (2"IDx12" long - paid ~$25) to mine when I put on my header and got rid of my kat. I've got a small import muffler behind that and the glasspack helps keep the noise down. The glasspack is not that light (all steel construction) but is compact. However, if you don’t put a regular muffler behind that the glasspack, they tend to pop and crackle when you let off the gas.. Or maybe you'd like that.... :D

for one of my racing motorbikes i used (don't laugh:D ) a tube that a bottle of scotch came in for a mold shape, wrapped that in aluminum, riveted it together and then wrapped it in 3 layers of 'glass (epoxy resin) and then wrapped a layer of header heat tape around that. was very cool to the touch and not very heavy at all. the reason i picked the scotch bottle (hic...) tube was that it was the perfect inside diameter to slip an aprox. 2" sink drain on the inlet side (brazed to the exhaust pipe) and a Supertrapp racing core inside at the other end.:)

i had heard this before, and took the mufflers off my cx500 turbo for a short blast to see and........*BBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCC CCCKKKKKKKKKKKK*
holy crap was it loud! way louder than a racing core Supertrapp, and it sounded like an open piped harley (blech.)
it might be totally different on a larger volume/lower boost turbo, though i dunno:confused:

I do not think the turbo will be needed with the NOS. Good ideas though. I am leaving work now, found a guy about 50mi away that has quite a few carbon cans $100ea. It is way less than new. The intire truck is still under budget, so I can justify a little extra $ on some cool stuff! I would post pics, but have no idea how and dont care to, at least until the truck is done and I can get some sleep!

Titanium tubing? That would cut down on the weight a little!

I got a carbonfiber can with about a 24" stainless pipe.I think the guy said it was a factory R-6 pipe. He showed me a muffler off of another bike that some one had drilled out the pop rivets, and shortened the can. He told me all the tips for trial and error tunning the can by removing length from it(muffler). It is way cool!
