I just bought a '90 RRC with high miles for cheap. The motor runs okay, but I'd say its on its way out. I have a '95 LT-1 sitting in my garage that I planned to swap into my Jeepster Commando. However, now I'm thinkin' that it would fit quite nicely in the Rover. :grinpimp: I've been researching it a bit and found two sources for an adapter to the stock ZF transmission - Mark's and the Rod Shop (both down under). Has anyone used either of these for a Chevy V8 conversion? If so, what did you think of the quality, fit, etc? Are there any other sources more readily available? TIA!

Some will say the ZF is not up to the power of the Chevy small block. Others will say that it does plenty fine in the high horsepower BMW applications. I would prolly rebuild it with some aftermarket upgrades or swap for a Chevy tranny (Marks makes an adapter for the T400/and the newer overdrive tranny as well). Problem with the chevy trannies is going to be length with the adapter. Will prolly necessitate moving the t-case back and that might be a pain with the tcase shifter and such in a RR.

i wouldnt do it on a stock ZF auto-- i would at least look at heavier duty rebuilt units with jaguar clutch packs etc

Why not just make it two wheel drive. With a 14 bolt rear end and a 4l80e.

I saw a few pages where people used the TH350 or TH400 swaps and they ran into problems with the front driveshaft hitting the pan. Don't know which I'd rather deal with - beefing the stock ZF and adapting to that, or making the GM stuff work. It would be nice to adapt a TH700R4 to the Rover case and keep an overdrive. If anyone has gone this route, I'd appreciate any insight you may have into the swap. Should the Borg-Warner case get swapped out at the same time? I've been reading about the LT230 conversions, but this is my first foray into Rover-land. I know that will get rid of the viscous coupling and give me more drive options, but what are the other drawbacks/benefits? If that's the way to go, what's a good donor vehicle?
BTW - gotta keep it 4wd - I'm planning to build it up for off-road use/abuse and to tow my Jeepster to the trail (and off it, when necessary).
