Project Cherry Outline
Please Read through the list. If you know a part I missed on the list let me know, If you know of a used Part/Donor I am looking for let me know, If you have recommendations as to a brand, Part Number or Something I am Missing please let me know. And Above and Beyond all……….If you know of Sponsor’s that may be interested in helping somehow please Let me know. If you know of a web site that would post this mess let me know. I am building my own site right now But Why try to re-invent when there may be a site that is already known that will post this. I do not profess to be a jeep Cherokee specialist….not even an offroading expert (I have owned mainly chevy trucks until I bought the jeep and I am not going back)
Who I am
Scott Van Den Hout
37 Year old IT manager. Father of 3 Beautiful Girls (15, 16 and 19 years of age) *FEAR*
I started my work Carrier as a certified Mechanic in Michigan specializing in Heavy Service (Engine Transmission and axle rebuilding) for a large Buick/BMW dealership. I also worked for a local shop doing Auto, Truck, and Tractor repair. After becoming an instant father of 3 girls I decided the Auto repair industry just wasn’t paying the bills. I went to work for a large Michigan construction Company as a Iron worker on the welding crew. I became a certified welder at this point. I worked in this field for several years and then took a Fall from a building. I was not hurt bad but I no longer had any interest in heights much less walking steel. I went back to school and became an IT Professional. So there is a brief synopsis of my abilities to accomplish this project,
What I have right now………1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Purchased Used in 1996 It now has 244,000 Miles on it. With Severe Piston Slap. 3-4 Inches of custom lift using ZJ Front springs and a Add a Leaf rear. Stock 4.0L engine, AW4 transmission, NP231 Transfer case, Dana 30 Front axle and Chrysler 8.25 Rear Axle. 0 Skid plates. Bald 30” Mud Terrains. Notice the Oil Spots………The Great rear Main seal Leak
This is Where we are headed
The Idea here is to build the Everything as complete as possible on the stand to minimize Down time.

Mobile Welder
I will be using the Mobi-Arc Unit
San Diego, CA -- December 1, 2001 -- Mobile Welding & Power, Inc. (MWP) said today it is introducing two new innovative products: Mobi-Arc™ and Mobi-Power™. Mobi-Arc™ is a highly efficient, completely solid-state control and delivery device designed to connect to any alternator. During normal driving, the alternator is regulated at an automotive friendly 14.5 volts. When welding leads are connected to the control unit and an arc is struck, the Mobi-Arc™ automatically and instantly switches the alternator into a “high current” mode and electronically protects the vehicle’s battery and electrical system. Optional expansion modules allow the user to create hyper-accurate voltage output for battery jump-starting and boost-charging applications. Available modules are programmed for 14 volts and 28 volts, however, if a customer requires 32.7 volts for a special custom application, the products are programmable.
Mobi-Power™ provides the same functions, control technology, and expansion modules as the smaller Mobi-Arc™, but also provides a UL approved splash-proof covered 120 volt DC power outlet which can be used to run halogen lighting and universal powertools like grinders, sanders, saws, etc. Foreign outlets providing 220 volt and 240 volt DC are also available.
Mobi-Arc™ and Mobi-Powers’ stainless steel construction are designed for under-the-hood extremes and are both dust-proof and water resistant. Industries that benefit from these multi-function platforms include service fleets, utility vehicles, off-road enthusiasts, turf-utility vehicles, contractors, farm and ranch maintenance, military, fire and rescue, mining equipment maintenance, and many more.
What makes these products innovative and unique? State-of-the-art switch-mode power control technology affords unsurpassed reliability in a truly ultra-compact package making installation in tight spaces a snap. Mobi-Arc™ and Mobi-Power™ are designed to connect to virtually any alternator making them the first truly universal alternator-acuated welding control units. They utilize no moving parts, no solenoids, and no mechanical switches; completely solid-state. They are completely automatic; it knows when you want to weld and when welding is suspended, it automatically continues to charge the vehicle’s battery. Mobi-Arc™ and Mobi-Power™ utilize pulse-width modulation (PWM) for reliability, longer battery life, efficient power regulation, and control.
Mobi-Arc™ and Mobi-Power™ has employed cutting-edge technology and sound electrical engineering architecture to safely control alternator output for use in various applications broadening the versatility of vehicles worldwide.
OnBaord Air
I will be using the NEW product from http://www.onboardair.com/ This is Manufactured By Kilby Enterprises. The Unit will use a York Compressor and Mount near the existing air comparessor. The new unit Is due out Mid Winter. It is Very Similar in design to the existing KE-1000 that fits the TJ and YJ. The new part number Should be KE-1700 and be in the price range of $150-$200. I am hoping to have this Kit Late January Early Feb. and will post a write up on this as soon as I can get it.
