: SM465 Help!
1970cruiser 01-25-2002, 12:34 PM Ok I am running a Chevy 327 with a SM465 and an adapter to the 3spd Toyo tranny. Well, trying to run them anyway. I want to know who is running this swap and what clutch cylinder are you using. I wasted my money on the AA adapter to run the Toyo, but AA has no quality control and I am going to have to bend it to get it to fit right. I will also have to cut about 3" off of the push rod that connects the cylinder to the clutch fork. Is anyone running the chevy cylinder? If so post some pics and give me some details on how to fab it to the firewall. I am so frustrated right now I feel like :nuke: my cruiser. Well, mayby the AA part instead. :flipoff: AA
TLCObsession 01-25-2002, 01:47 PM OK - you need to run the early MC and the late slave or the other way around. WHat you want is the bigger bore MC to the smaller bore slave - it will give you a little more travel.
I still have some problems shifting my setup when the rig gets hot - I think it has to do with the slave line getting radiant heat from the exhaust.
HTH,
Jim
v6toy4x 01-25-2002, 01:48 PM ANOTHER IDEA MIGHT BE AN INTERNAL HYDRAULIC THROW OUT LIKE FROM TILTON?
wngrog 01-25-2002, 02:06 PM Hey Man
That slave adapter is designed for the Chevy CAST bellhousing.
What you will need to do on your aluminum bellhousing is grind down the ribs to make it fit flush or grind a little on the adapter.
Don't fret:cool:

Where do I find the cast bellhousing?
wngrog 01-25-2002, 02:21 PM Dude
I have a 2F, not a SBC so I have no pics....grind it to fit..don't be scared
joshfj40 01-25-2002, 03:41 PM I made my own bracket much like AA's I had a little trouble shifting with stock chevy clutch but it wasnt terrible. I recently installed a short throw clutch and now have zero probs. (sorry I dont know where to get the clutch jettech gave it to me)
1970cruiser 01-25-2002, 05:04 PM Is it a chevy or Toyo short throw shifter? Also can you contact the dude you got it from and ask him where he got it. I would really appreciate it!:D
Jettech 01-25-2002, 05:22 PM Like Nolen said Grind it man,it will work fine.
I ground on bracket not the Bellhousing, just below the upper tranny bolt,I thought it was kinda obvious:)
I have the Toy slave and custom length rod(threaded rod) :D
Oh i have the Cast \straight fork, works good
I will try these pics

I have the steel fork and have been told it will bend. although that hasnt happened I was wondering if I switched to a cast fork would get more throw? Reason I ask is I still get a little grinding when I shift with my setup.. In those pics the cast forks look longer than the steel is that so?
Jettech 01-27-2002, 03:59 PM That's what I heard, couldnt tell you for sure though:D

well I fooled with it some more this afternoon and I have it down to no grind, so I know its possible with the steel fork but has proven to be a bitch!
woody 01-28-2002, 07:45 AM Read the SM465 install information, my writeup, linked on my site. I discuss the need to grind a bit on the aluminum bellhousing in order for the Advance Adapters slave mount to fit and the need to run the cast clutch fork and not the steel one.

[NOTE: The steel clutch fork used with the Aluminum bellhousings does not work...tried it. Picked up the cast from from an older SM465 and it works perfectly...see pics above.]
is this the info? Now that I got mine to work I was wondering why yours didnt work? not enough throw? guess it doesnt really matter, just curious is all..
Aggro 01-29-2002, 09:26 AM I successfully run 74 master and slave with a cast fork, adjustable rod came with my new slave, thru the inner fork hole, has to be adjusted correctly, but works great. I run aa slave bracket, and think it's poop. Next time, I'd make my own, simple and I'd have the slave right side up, so I could bleed it correctly.
woody 01-29-2002, 09:55 AM The steel folk can be tweaked to work or you can just pick up the stronger cast one. The steel one in un-tweaked form does not offer enuf throw.
I agree that the upside-down slave is a PITA....might have to make a custom bracket next time the setup comes out for adjustments.

I run the steel one with the cast aluminum bellhousing. Woody which cast bellhousing did you mean?
Does anyone know the PN or the application for the cast fork? I might try 'upgrading' mine to see if it gets rid of shifting problems when its hot & I am all bound up....
Since its been years since I touched mine can you swap the fork w/o pulling the tranny?
