Thanks for reading.....
I'm going to drag an FJ40 quite a distance (about 1500 miles) behind a GMC Jimmy.
Is there anyhing I need to prepare for? And can anyone recomend a good tow bar? I really dont want to drill the bumper.
Thanks in advance.

I pulled mine from Chicago to Houston, over 1,100 miles. I borrowed a buddys car hauler. I would not pull it with a tow bar. Rent a tow dolley from Uhaul or a car trailer. It is not that expensive and alot safer. Just my .02

It is safer to use a trailer but I towed my LC all over the west coast with just a tow bar. Not a big deal at all. Never disconnected a drivesshaft or anything. No damage... most of the trips were at least 400 miles each way. But some were a lot longer....
Watch out because it will push you blazer around a bit...

I flat tow my cruiser with a P.O.S jimmy the tierods are so worn I look like a drunk driver when I'm not towing. but suprisingly my cruzah follows it with no problem just make sure the alingment on the cruzer is good (I thought my buddy was gonna die numerous times because his truck was pushing mine all over the place. the prob. was his alingment).
also if you have a front locker make sure you dont forget to unlock the hubs. it aint pretty when you do
and to answer you second question I just got the cheapest tow bar the 4wheel drive shop had and it worked fine. your gonna have to drill holes
I would definitely take the small amount of time it takes to remove
the rear drive shaft. I have seen 2 rigs (aftermath) mysteriously pop into gear.
Especially if you are not familiar with the rig.

I have flat towed mine a couple of times
with out any problems.
well all most no problems.
one time I arived at camp and the fj was running.
I swear it was off when I started.
any way disconecting rear drive shaft
and renting dolly sounds like the best advise.

any RV joint will have new and used ones. don't go to uhaul or you will take it up the butt.
just remember, everything on a standard cruisers drivetrain oils itself wether towed or driven.........so, disconnecting anything is a waste of time IMHO. what if your tow rig breaks? you just unhook and drive off without crawling under a rig on the side of the road........ food for thought.
