Question....... well more like an Idea.......
Would it be possible to swap the left and right side axle shafts in a chevy d44?....
Could you just cut the tubes off......swap sides with axle-shafts...... and build new tubes in order to have a driver-side drop.......hmmm....
Here's the deal........ I found a chevy p/u with D44 front (6 lug)..... and a 79 jeep with rear D44 widetrack (6 lug) ........
I know that the wms is 61" on the Jeep 44, not real sure about the chevy 44.......
Any Ideas ??????????????

Why not put GM outters on a Ford 44? That would give you Hi-Pinion, too.

Forgot that the FS jeeps starting in the early 80's also had a DS drop 44 w/6 lugs. Might be narrower than a GM or Ford.

Um the full size chevy axle is alot wider than a wide track waggy d44.
You sure thats a wide track rear...I thought the wide tracks were around 65 and the narrow tracks were 62?
Why don't you just find a drivers drop wide track (if thats what it is) front d44? Waggys from 80 and up should have a drivers drop d44, just avoide the vacume disconnect stuff.
Oh and search...there was just a 3 page thread on waggy d44's a couple of weeks ago over in the jeep section!

I thought chevy D44 fronts were 67" wide vs 65" for a widetrack cherokee/Jtruck. 2" isn't exactly a lot. I'd find a driver's drop widetrack Jeep front if it were me.

I alway thought they were wider than that. From the outside of my tires I am 88" wide! I run a 4" back spacing on a 10" rim. I alway figured they were in the low 70's....but don't know a real #. Your right 2" woulden't be alot.
Still go with the waggy front. But it the chevey has flat top nuckles it might still be usefull.

Just checked the Pirate bible and they say 69" for chevy front ends.
