I started working a set and was kind or curious on what method others have used. I'm going to use fiberglass to fill in, what have you done?

this is something I have considered also, if you could, please post some pictures with your build, my brainstorms have included turning the door handle downward so it could still be opened if need be. and using a set of smaller doors off of something else that would fit inside the scout door and be easily removeable.

I am going to fab up a set sometime. I am looking to bend up a set out of smaller round tube or weld a set up out of square tube. I would like to make two sets....one set to use in summer that is just tube and an inclement weather set with sheet metal, fabric, or aluminum panels.

I am dying to ditch the doors. I can not believe someone has not made a set available to use. Damian was working on these a few years ago to sell but I do not know the status of them now. Wish a set was available to just buy and bolt on..besides the SSII options.

OS, are you talking about turning a set of hard doors into SSII style doors like Rustoleum White did? Or are you talking about actual half doors?

Sorry camera is broken and new one is backorderd.

The plan is something like this :

Then take some 3/8" steel rod and some vinyl and make a pair of these:

All I have done so far is cut out the opening in the doors.

I have been tossing that idea around since I got my inserts last year... If'n I can come up with some cash to buy Sullys doors, they will be chopped :D

A friend has a new generation Toy that he did similar to the one in the picture.
It isn't cut quite as low. About where the pin-stripe line is.

He built a cup holder into it as well which I thought was a nice touch... :D

thats quite funny.
I think i posted some pics of the finished product...
I ended up cutting down to seat level, and reinforcing the doors with 1" square tube...
filled in door lock and handle holes.
rigged up door latch to the lock button at the top of the door, so when you push the lock button down, the door opens.

if someone wants to post a pic, i can email it...

i think i should have cut more out, but it is cut to seat-level, any more would not help visability... i figured if i want to cut more i might as well just ditch the door s all together.

Funny Sully :flipoff2:

I asked about style of building, NOT what they look like!

Nice 2560x1920 pic

I have some SSII outers in ok shape... If you lay some glass on the back sides they'll be great. Come get em.

the idea behind mine was to copy the bronco insert idea - not to actually make a door. The door would fit in the insert and would be fabric, I actually haven't even finished my inserts (that pic is about where they are still, and the other one is only cut not filled).

OS if your using a steel door why not fill it with sheetmetal instead of glass? My last set that I made was cut and stripped of the inner parts and capped. I could stand on them no problem and they were super light and held a speaker nicely. Really that is the other reason for the inserts I am making - they still fit a 6x9 speaker ;)

Pjs,

edit your post and resize that pic... its HUGE... really f's up the screen.

Bob, I think filling the gap with steel is the easiest/fastest/cleanest. I used parts from an old hard top :D

Glas' could work, as I'm sure you know, just seems like more of a hassel. However, if I got a set of glas' doors to start with..... super light!

If/when I do them again, I will weld a brace across the top as others after me did, mine spread a little, not alot and they still work fine, but a brace would have stopped it.
