How do you know which bender to buy to suit your needs?
I would be a hobby fab person....so a powered bender would not be for me due to the price.
Which one of the bottle jack benders would be ideal for bending tube for new bumbers, sliders, exo's and cages? How do you know? I have been looking at the ***** bender. Pro's and cons?
I have been reading about the benders for some time in the posts and want my own without breaking the bank.
EDIT: I misstated the name of the bender.....it is the William's Lowbuck Bender (http://www.lowbucktools.com/hydbender.html). After looking at the price of the JD2's I am more interested.

If you wanna bend tube check out JD2 or a Pro Tools 105. The latter is what we have and it works great. You can add hydro sometime if you like but it's not mandatory. And you'll be looking anywhere between $500-$750 for a complete setup depending on how many dies, if you build your own stand, etc.

the kink-o-matic works great. :flipoff2: the only reason you would ever use on of those is if you are bending .250 wall tubing. i personaly use the jd2 and love it.
I have had a JD2 for about 4 years now and it works great for my hobby uses. I just use a 5 foot cheater bar since I can't justify adding hydraulics. :D

JD2 for 6 month, it works flawlessly. Worth every penny.

So when you buy the JD2 does it come with a die or is that extra? Which die should you get if you are bending tube? Are they all specific for a certain diameter? I guess that the larger dies can do the smaller tube but not vice versa.

That don't come with dies. You can not bend smaller tube with a bigger die, so get the size die you plan on using the most, and buy more as you need them.

That's not exactly right. Yes the HF pipe benders are a joke but there are single shot benders that generate a bend rather than form one. Mitler Bros makes one and I think ProTools makes one too. They do limit your bends to 90* and cost alot more when you buy hydro kits.

If no cage work is need is a HF jack bender worth it for just bumpers, sliders and such. I repeat no cage work.

I converted my JD2 to air/hydro for $70 plus some scrap steel. Works great for my needs.

Pro Tools makes a bottle jack bender http://www.pro-tools.com/200.htm and is limited to +/- 120* bends.

Worth it? Depends really. If you wanna make your bumpers out of pipe, and don't mind taking your time, and cranking on that little jack lever a BUNCH of times, sure - I see people use them all the time.

The Protools bottle jack type I have produced nicer bends than the jd2 I borrowed from a friend. Why is this? Maybe the follower is better?
They are more expensive than the hand crank, and mine only does a 100* bend..but
I found mine used w/ 1/75" die for 100 bucks.

Alan, You guys rock! I got mine way faster than expected.
I went with the JD2 since I have a buddy that has one and the dies would then be interchangeable.
