My place is in the Sacramento, California area. I'm looking to put up a metal building to replace the old falling apart barn on my property. As it seems like many of you have metal buildings, I'm wondering where you bought them or if you had them built. I'm looking for something that is around 20 x 40.

That SUCKS! :flipoff2:

That is the price of my "bomb shelter proof" SLAB!!! (approx 40 cubic yards
of concrete, #5 rebar through out). EDIT: 30' x 50' slab - 6" minimum thick

Fess up... which building supplier did you use?

I just priced a shop last night....40'x63', 14' walls, 10' overhang on one side, wood trusses on 9' centers with metal roof and siding, 12' door (upgrading to 14'), service door, 4 windows, all the stuff, $13,600. Does not include the slab or insulation (or wiring, plumbing, and all the miscellaneous stuff...or installation, d'oh)

This was thru my local Menards hardware spot.

Does anyone see an advantage or disadvantage to wood trusses over metal? I AM leaning metal, seems like the upper portion of the shop will be more open it should provide higher load ratings for those monster snows (which, for the past few years, don't exist, but the chance is there...)

I used Fabristeel West in Granite Bay. (owners name is John)They put it up and took care of all the permits. They install Metallic brand buildings and I have to say it is a very nice building. For my 40x60x16 it was about $35 and an extra $9000 for the concrete. All insulated, with gutters, down spouts, 2 14x14 rollups and 2 4x7 walk throughs.

Mine is 40 wide, 50 deep, (2) 10 X10 doors That have not come in yet. Sitting on 58 yds of concrete. All I have left to do is termite treatment and final electrical and building. Power will be hooked up 9-7. Damn I can't wait :D

Nice looking shop. :cool2: Are those 12' walls witha 4.12 pitched roof? I'm looking at building a similar size building and wanting to get an idea how big the inside would be with the 12' walls and 4.12 pitched roof.

Thanks,

Eric

How much was it (with and without the pad)? Who did you go through?

Eric,

Good guess, 12' walls 4:12 roof, the center of the shop is about 18.5' high. This is a little higher than I wanted. I like it but it is going to be a pain to heat on this mountain top in western NC.

It was 16000 w/o doors. 2 10x10 roll up doors from the building co. was 875.
I bought 2 good doors and openers for 3000. 58 yards of concrete was 4000.
It is from Aegis building systems, it is a NCI building.

All I have left to do is termite treatment...

This may sound like a really stupid question, but what can a termite do to a building constructed of steel and concrete? You guys must have some really bad ass termites in NC!

You are right. Paid 250 yesterday for a quick spray and most important the paper to go with it.

Have you guys found that your property value goes up significantly with the addition of your shop? I have been told by a pool builder friend of mine that when they add a pool to someones back yard the property value goes up the same as the cost of the pool. Not sure if that is totally true or not but I wonder about adding a shop. Do you think the cost of the shop can be added to property value?

Sure a shop increases the value of your property if it's properly built, but I doubt it's dollar for dollar. There are just too many factors.

You better believe the county appraiser will increase your property value so they can increase your property taxes. Again, it may not be dollar for dollar, in theory they should look for "comps" (comparable sales) in your area
