It cost me $150 for the housing and $85 for the shaft for my RC 44. Did I get bent over?

Where's Dave? I thought he'd be all over this...

Jeez, Hooder, don't you know how to http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/top_search.gif?

:flipoff2:

(To be productive, whatever a cut/respline on the shaft would cost (I think someone said like $100), + the cost to either cut down the tube yourself, or pay someone to do it. :flipoff2: )

probably cheaper to swap in a waggy rear ;) 58" and 61.5" isnt exactly full width.. more like stock YJ width. But, I have to admit its a BUNCH better than my stock pre-amc CJ track in terms of stability.

$125 to take a waggy 44 to wide track cj. Both housing and axle.

a fullwidth axle is 67-69" a far cry from a relatively narrow waggy axle. i'd say leave the length alone if it'll bolt up.

Dutchman cuts down axle shafts for $85 a pair. Or $55 ea. I bet you can do the housing yourself. You should only need to narrow one side.

LeJeune Engineering in Victoria, BC cut down my shaft. $85 Can. They have a website....

BTW, they didn't cut and respline, they chopped, tapered and built up weld. They think it's stronger....I dunno, I haven't busted mine yet.

really not that hard to do it yourself. all you need is a grinder, big f@#king hammer, welder and an angle finder.

Rear ff60 is a whole different ball of wax. The best way to do that is to use 9" ends and 35 spline axles. Semi floating, but it's near bullet proof. You'll still need a jig to do it.

Like it was posted above, there are a lot of narrow trails in the Pacific North West, and the fact that he want's to keep his current rear end, not have 8 to 10 inches sticking out on each side, and having a ticket magnet makes pretty good sense. Just my .02 :flipoff2:
