Fastenal, LOL, I've had some ordered for 2 weeks from the local store, that's why I'm asking for other places. Thanks though.

A good quality Starrett or Lenox will do fine, you can order them from any of the major machine tool catalogs like J&L, MSC, Rutland tool, ENCO, KBC. I like the Lenox diemaster 2 that I get from J&L. I use them on my cheapy horizontal band saw and I also the custom length 1/4" wide ones for my Vert band saw.

Starrett, that was the name I was looking for. Thanks. Now, what is better for general steel cutting, ie. tube, box, angle. Wavy teeth or Raker teeth?

I only use Starretts in my band saw. Get mine at Grainger.

preferred tpi too? i get differing answers from people, my lower tpi blades cut fast but teeth get knocked out, don't know how low i can go without blowing a check buying a ton of blades.

You will probably need multiple blades to cut a wide range of material, you can't cut thick steel with the same blade as sheetmetal, because the teeth will clog. The standard is 2 to 3 teeth in the material.

good tip, thanks.

i picked up a starret 14 tpi blade for my HF saw. it worked real well cutting 1/2" plate, and through the 2" side of it when i couldn't get to a mill. cuts tube pretty nice too.

I ordered my last one from McMaster-Carr, seems decent.

Luckily, my local Fastenal is great. Mostly I deal with Dillon Supply Company, though.

as good as it was, it sure died quickly...lasted a day and now it won't cut for shump. cut about 8" of 1/2" bar, 4" of the bar turned so it was 2" that the blade was cutting through, a number of 1.5" .120 wall tube cuts, and about a foot of 3/16" plate. that was it. had to resort to cutting tabs with the plasma cutter and then grinding smooth. i'll try a different blade soon.

Starret makes economy blades as well as very good expensive blades, so you cant buy just any starret and expect it to last forever. You get what you pay for. In my experience buying a more expensive blade at twice the price of a cheap one will last a lot more than twice as long.
