My rear axle seal has warn a slight groove in my axle shaft causing diff oil to leak in to my drum. The groove is not deep enough to catch my fingernail on but it is noticeable. If I just replace the seal is there still a potential for leakage? Do I need a new axle? Any suggestions???? I know they make a speedi sleeve to correct this type of problem on transfer case and driveshaft flange but I have found no such thing for an axle.

I would buff the sealing surface on the shaft with some 400-600 grit emory paper, the pop a new seal in and try it, see if it still leaks. A new seal is only a few bucks, it's worth a try.

The part of the axle tube that the seal fits in is longer than the thickness of the seal. You could try just mounting the seal a little shallower and see what happens. Just a thought.

Mark's idea is right on.

Quit being helpful Mark, it's out of character (jab!)... :flipoff2:
