i just picked up an old tecumseh engine that has no spark. i figure something in the magneto set up has come loose or worn out. how repairable are magnetos. can i just replace parts or wil i need the whole shebang.

Typically just the points need to be cleaned and regapped.

Take a business card and place between the Magneto and the Flywheel If you still get no spark replace the magneto.

Tecumseh parts list are often wrong, and the company changed parts often. So get the model number for the engine and take in the Magneto, If you get the correct part the first time then God loves you.

I was thinking of the old school engines with points. Took a while to discover the points hiding under the flywheel. Neighbor tossed mower as "junk". Once I had the flywheel off and the points set... ran like a champ. :)
