: Thoughts on the Tera 50R
Dirty Harry 01-25-2002, 08:57 PM Why the fawk would someone buy one of these? I like how they rotated the diff cover, but why would you go through the cost and hassle of a 50R. Just get a 60! Maybe someone out there can clear this up for me, but when I read the blurb in the "Hot Products" section of one of the rags I was just let scratching my head.

TPIJeep 01-25-2002, 09:06 PM I am guessing you would buy one of those because you have way to much money. I was told they run about 3500
I still like where it says it comes with 1 ton capacity knuckles and ujoints, then in the next sentance says you can run your D44 shafts in it  is this thing made by wenger or somthing?
wngrog 01-26-2002, 06:57 AM GOOD question???
Does it have like....3 inches more clearance than a D44? That would be the ONLY reason I can imagine.
What are the clearance specs?
it's a high clearance BOLT IN housing desinged initially for 01 TJ's
Jeep made a few slight engine changes and made T60 housing's very hard to install withouth major clearance issues

So Tera is just catering to 2001+ Wrangler owners now? Doesn't make much sense to market a diff for one specific application, but if they can make money off of it more power to them. Thanks for the insight DSI.
I've gotta wonder how "bolt in" it is anyway. Even if you transfered all of the parts off your 44 (and why the hell would you do that?) you still need a least a new driveshaft and there is a boatload of labor involved.
I for one will pass on this, but at least I now know that it isn't just a misprint for a Tera 60R.
aaronlosey 01-26-2002, 02:45 PM i don't know, but the ones that come in the front of the f-350's single rear wheel trucks have large axle shafts that taper down at the necks. i saw one and i looked goofy. neck the axle down at the weakest part? wierd.
i can't figure it out either, i think they just ended up with a product with the diff cover swung back for decent ground clearance and protection, that would work for everyone who didn't want the weight of a 60, even though these things are pretty heavy. why you wouldn't just stick with a 44 is beyond me if you end up with the same shafts. the ring gear isn't the weak spot anyways.

It necks down ands they all do mostly for this purpose, to let it twist there a little instead of breaking. That is what the factory does, it don't work for us low geared rock crawlers but ask the enginerrs, tyhat is why, ask bill vista, he has a book on everything and will tell u canoks invented it all tpp:rolleyes:  can we go to war with canada too?:flipoff2:
Cutter 01-26-2002, 03:07 PM can we go to war with canada too? LMAO! Made me think of the 'South Park' movie:laughing:

The ring gear is the weak point if you are talking about a high pinion used in the rear.
BillaVista 01-26-2002, 05:42 PM can we go to war with canada too?
Ahhh - you're just all bent out of shape coz we've kicked your ass once, and you have never kicked ours!

aaronlosey 01-26-2002, 06:56 PM think your getting off topic, and its meant as a front axle, but i guess it could be for the rear.

Suuuuure we can........at hockey !!
I'm pretty sure that if you took your very smallest, weakest, stupidest backwoods national Guard unit they would kick our ass all day !!
I used to fly on a det that had a patch that read:
"Canada - Ch124 Sea King....we'll kick your ass"
and then in smaller print it said:
"Day VMC only, offer not vaild in the US"
(Day VMC basically means only in ideal conditions)
