Anyone here ever put a Ford 300 in a CJ. I have a CJ with a worn out 304 and a brand new 300 laying around worth about 300hp. Planing to use a NP 435 with the 300. Just curious if anyone else has done this.

My friend did it in his YJ. It had enough power to put me in the back of my seat accelerating with 33" tires. It was strong enough to break his output shaft on that NP t-case.

Tight fit but doable. The 300 is a touch longer than a 258. But if you set the motor back in the chassis (closer to the firewall) it should fit ok. A really sweet option would be the factory injection for the 300.

Thanks for the info. This is goining to be a trail only rig so I can do whatever it takes to make it fit. The motor has a Offy intake and a 390cfm Holley on it, but I do want injection. From what I`ve heard the Pro-Jection doesn`t work well on this motor.

If a 300 will fit in a flat fender, I'm sure you can make it fit in a long fender CJ. ;) :D

Whats one of those motors put out?? Still cant compete with a 4.0 with FI can it??

I don't know what the FI ones do but the 73 models have 126hp and 234ft lbs torque.

I dont know the numbers, but compared to a 4.0 its alot stronger, maybe not the revability the 4.0 has, but way more bottom end.

I had one in a FORD truck, it would not die, I dogged the shit out of it for a few years, and it was wore out when I got it, still kept going and going, and going..

strong as hell right off idle, always noisy, sounded like a pea thrasher.

made me a believer, people always told me it was a good engine.

A freind of mine had a 300 six cyl in a 87-ish 1/2 ton 2wd...

That thing had sooo much torque with a 5 speed, you could
tow like there was nothing behind the truck........I think that
motor was rated quite high, around 250hp......?

It was a very nice driving motor.
