livermore2 01-26-2002, 06:44 PM if you must use the closed knuckle 44 you can buy some felt and rubber at OSH and make your own gaskets.

There's your problem. Lordco sells image not parts. Try an International dealer.
Keith 01-26-2002, 06:54 PM A while back I needed some for my 73 ford, went to the dealer and bought em.

what model was the ford was it the small bal or the large ball?
oldjeep 01-26-2002, 07:39 PM Try www.kaiserwillys.com I think they'd have them. If it's really the small ball - D25 seals may work, but no guarantees - you can get them at JCW.
When you get to filling the knuckle up, if you use half grease, and half 90 weight, they don't leak as much.
Chief yelling alot 01-26-2002, 07:50 PM Cool thanks i'll take a look
Um I whoulent say it's really smal ball it's just that the Dana 44 had two difrent size of balls and I got the small one.

Looks like the D25 stuff will fit. I'm gonna tell you something you've probabally heard before, but that is a pretty weak axle. It looks like they used D25 Outers with a D44 pig. The spindle bolts have a nasty habit of ripping loose - so if the spindles are still using bolts, drill the knuckle holes to 3/8 and use D30 knuckle studs.
BossBuilt 01-27-2002, 09:33 AM Hey Chief,
If those are the same as the 25/27's jeepdoc.com (www.jeepdoc.com) has them dirt cheap..... my old 27 measures 6 1/2" from flat spot to flat spot....
I went to napa and ordered them once, when they came in they said "ok that will be $50 each please" ...I said (after dropping a load)..."no thank you"....I would cut the fu#!ers off first..
I can do some more measuring for you if that figuer comes close.

yeah I know
I'll be easy on the rite foot and I alys got me eye open for a 60 or a late 44
but I was told that they use the same U joint as a 30 and my budy has a jeep with a 30 and he's runing 35s with a Cheby 350 and hes had it a few years now and hasent broken anything yet
so I kinda crosinf my fingures
jdjanda 01-27-2002, 10:13 AM Try Light Line of LA. They are the offical parts supplier for the IH Light Line.
Joe
CJ3BWILLYS 01-27-2002, 10:53 AM I've ordered them from J.C. Whitney for about $11 bucks for both sides, plus shipping. They are all the same (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Jeep, Intenational) The big ball knuckles that you refer to are called "3500 pound heavy duty 44's" , and they may be a little harder to find, but the others are easily available. And while it's true they aren't quite as strong as an open knuckle design, they are less maintnance due to the axle u joint not being exposed to the elements.
Chief yelling alot 01-27-2002, 02:17 PM coo info; my neighbour works at a old school AMC deler and he deals old AMC parts so he might be abel to help me out. Havent ever talked to him once since he's lived hear, he can be a bit crazy if he's in a bad mood.
Chief yelling alot 01-27-2002, 02:18 PM oh forgot to add
It whould be cool if one chould get some 30 spline axels made by Waren with some CTM U joints for the closed knuckle

Chief yelling alot 01-28-2002, 09:49 AM I'm not giving up

I'd make ya a deal for a set of Dana 44's (open knuckle front) off a 78 J10 truck 3.73 ratio, open; to help you out and get them out of my yard. email me at hewl35@hotmail.com if you are interested.
Chief yelling alot 01-28-2002, 05:41 PM OK do you think waren whould be willing to make a 30 spline axel for a closed knucke 44. Like is this ther bag or do they just do langhts
and oldjeep look at the above question

I've done it on D25's - which appear to use the same knuckle. The threads tend to tear out of the knuckle, so you drill them out to 3/8" and press in Dana 30 knuckle studs. Pretty easy.

Oh I see so the studs whould be like the studs that hold your tire on right?
