: Is the Con very crowded Labor Day weekend

There is four or five rigs in the group I will be going with. The guy who has put this together wants to go in from the Cadillac and base camp at the Springs. And then run the trail from their. What I was wondering, is the trail very crowded that weekend. Or do you guys think, running the trail backwards will be okay that weekend? I have been on the trail many times, but in this group, no one else has. But I have never been on it during a holiday weekend. So I don't know how crowded it will be, or has been last year. So what do you guys think? Should we go in backwards, or should we start from Loon Lake and go with the flow this holiday weekend?

Trying to run the trail backwards on any weekend much less a Holiday weekend is not the best thing to do. Be prepared to wait for oncoming traffic alot.

If you want to run the trail backwards, I suggest doing it mid-week. That's what we do. :bounce2: Doing it on a weekend, especially a holiday weekend is insane. Unless, of course, you are doing a night run.

Well thanks for all your help. I talked with a guy who's putting it altogether, and will be coming in from Loon lake. They will just have to settle driving all the way to buck loaded down with camping gear. We'll be going in Thursday afternoon so hopefully it won't be so crowded. So again thanks for all your help, I didn't feel good about going in backwards on that holiday weekend anyways. I told them, we'll just go in nice and slow. It's just too bad there's no camping and spider.

If I were to bet, i would say it will be very quiet this year!! For the first time in 7 years i won't be on the Con labor day! I'll be in a secret location, with the noticably absent (#$%) :flipoff2:

I don't know... I remember a kinda recent holliday weekend where I was stuck in traffic coming in from Loon.

I'd almost say that a trip from Tahoe side to Buck, coming in on Fri or Sat and heading back out through Tahoe on Sunday, might be much more "quiet".

UPdate!! I was there Friday night and there were just 4 tow rigs parked at the bottom of the spillway. Only 4! And i would say only 10 vehicles on the trail all of Friday night between Loon and Spider. We left Saturday morning and only two more vehicles came in. We stopped at Robs and they were shocked at how slow things had been thus far. We ate B-fast at Ice house at 11:00AM on Saturday. It was dead. Wierd dead. We sat down and nobody else was eating or at the bar. We ordered, ate and left before anyone came. It was like a Wednesday. Not sure exactly what was up but I have never seen a labor day up there like this. It was kind of nice!

We raced at Placerville on Sat night and on Sunday we thought about driving up to Loon... Never made it but I did not see any trailers or rigs on Highway 50... unlike what I saw on Memorial Day and July 4th and Labor Day in years past.

Went up Saturday night and camped at Wentworth. Saw absolutely noone for along time. The trail wasn't busy thank God because I'm sick of the trash on the trail personally. We got to The Box on Sunday late morning and noone was there at all. No one was even camped close to it. We were greeted by two Sheriffs on quads. Real nice guys but definitely doing there job and seeing if we had been drinking or not. Left there and went on to Buck Island which had some people and continued on to the Springs and camped there. Hardly anyone was there either and the ride out on Cadillac wasn't the parking lot we thought it was going to be. In fact we saw maybe a few people on the way out. All I can say is that trail needed a really quiet weekend for awhile and I'm glad it got one. Passed by Old Sluice too many times and this time I finally went on it. Pretty narrow but a lot of fun for sure. Volkswagon rock was a blast to say the least. One last note I didn't see a single fire at the Springs. Gotta go unpack and get a nap I'm burnt as hell
