: Newbie checking in...
curtis73 08-27-2004, 07:45 PM Hey all. Looks like you all are some hardcore folks. My dad and I used to do a lot of 4 wheeling when I was a kid but he got out of it when I was about 15. I went a different direction; I restore/restify cars for purpose use. I'm a certified gearhead greasemonkey but a little dumb in the arena of the finer points of rock crawling. I don't plan on tackling Moab or Rubicon, but I do want a competent trail buggy and I'm willing to give up some street manners to get it. Suffice it to say, I want to drive 500 miles to the trail in Utah, not trailer it.
I recently moved to CA and found that there is some good stuff to climb out west and at the same time I just inherited a rusty scout. The best I can tell, its a 67-69 800. It has the four cylinder and haven't checked to see which one. Something like 153 and 195 ci were the options.
Anyway, I want to lift it a touch for some bigger meats and clearance but its gotta stay somewhat streetable. I'm thinking flipped shackles to get the springs up top and maybe a couple more inches past that. In truth, I don't know the trails around here too well and doubt that I need any huge articulation, but maybe some of those hinged spring mounts (forget what they're called) for some more reach.
Looking forward to all opinion and info I can get. I'll have more specific questions later as I get into it.
Thanks
Curtis
Great thanks Curtis! Did you want a cookie or something? :flipoff2:

Flipped shackles would lower a Scout.
You probably have a 196,t-90,d27 front and d44 rear.
If I had your truck I'd swap in some SOA SII d44s and bolt on a weber 32/36.

You're right.. I used the wrong terminology. Not flipped shackles; whatever its called when you take the leaves from under the axle and put them on top. On trailers you call it flipping the axle since thats what you actually do to get the mounts on top of the tube. Good info, thanks.... and SW99, I was actually hoping for piece of pie, or eternal respect :shaking: :D

Los Angeles, racheting rear diff locker, 35s, and beer. Now we're talking. I might go a little less rad on the tires, like maybe 33x12.5 AT. Is there a good source for an SOA kit so its easier to do properly? How about a good catalog for 4x stuff? Like Summit is to us street performance and race guys.
Thanks
OlyWaXJ 08-29-2004, 10:07 AM Can somebody help me with a catalog too?...
Then if I can get someone to put on my bolt on parts that would be great :flipoff2:
