I've got an opportunity to purchase a set of EB axles D44Disk/9"Drum from a buddy for $400 everything included... He is also throwing in the TC and a CV front axle... I still have the stock axles in my 82 cj5 and was wondering if in the long run if the strength/ money ratio will be worth it. I plan on doing a wide range of off-roading and It probably will see some mild abuse once the 360 is in soooo just thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone else had undertaken this swap..... BTW I am aware of the DS drop on the 44 and that's part of the money issue clocking the D300 or using a D20..... any help with these issues/ advise on what you did or would do again?!! :flipoff2:

$400 for an EB d20, dana 44 and a 9"? what's the dilemma here?
snatch that stuff up.
i believe the EB d20 had a lower ratio than all the rest of the stocker d20s. as for the 9" and 44, there's no way you can really go wrong with that setup unless you're wanting to run 38s and a happy right foot
remember though, in an EB the front is setup for coils so you'll need to do a little work on the front if you still want to use leaf springs

just make sure it IS a 44 and not a 30 front. and you will be good. I would do it.
just have the front axle retubed for a passenger side drop, then there will be no probs with the t/case, and it will not require new axle shafts. it may be the cheaper route. A lot of machine shops have the tools to do it.

you could always flip the dana 300 as well. might be cheaper and easier than having the front retubed

I still have some Q's I've been hearing that the EB 9" have small 28 spline shafts w/ a smaller(weaker) bearing. Also what is the cost involved in clocking the D300?? And will I be able to adapt the Bronco D20 to my T176 until I find a NV4500??? I do have a d20 from a cj laying around if that helps..
The EB 9" is the weakest used by Ford. It does indeed have the little bearings and an non-banjo housing (read: weak). The Bronco transfer case is not adaptable to your transmission. You would be money ahead going with Wagoneer axles.

What's the WMS-WMS measurement on the wagoneer axles?? Nevermind...
Narrow Waggy is 61-1/2" in 5 or 6 lug and 63" with the 8 lug setup. The widetrack waggy and Cherokee are 64" (C/O CJOffroad.com)
